What? He was in a job situation so your 1st amendment rights are still your rights, however there are consequences and he got nailed by his employer for the comments.
I wish Musk would buy USA Today so he could start nailing Armour, Brennan, Woken etc, for their constant intermingling of woke politics into the freaking SPORTS PAGE. They're also in a "job situation", but that is apparently no deterrent whatsoever.

Not familiar with those sports writers so cannot comment on them. The NC State guy blatantly brought a hot button political issue into a sporting event broadcast. That is a no no. Doesn’t matter that what he said was basically true or not.

The fact that the company this radio guy works for would consider the term "Illegal Alien" something that should not be used is BEYOND RIDICULOUS!!!!

Until the public starts making these corporations PAY for promoting all of this WOKE BULL CRAP, it will continue to be a PROBLEM!!!

Fair enough. It was an irrelevant statement to the game and gratuitous. He should’ve known better. Dock him some pay, preferably to a charity, and move on.

Baloney. He voiced a truth which is his first amendment right.
The First Amendment prohibits the Federal Givernment from limiting his speech: had he been standing in a national park, the Feds could not harass him.

The First Amendment does not protect speech an employer finds offensive. Get a job with one political party, and get caught speaking freely in support of another political party, and you Constitutionally lose your job.

Who is pressing the politics? Uh, the players kneeling? That wasn’t football related, which is what you claim you have issue with- not “staying in your lane.”

Not everything needs to be politicized is what sane ppl were saying the entire time, while apparently you were “conflicted.”

Lol you’re so full of ****.
When a broadcaster interjects his politics in programming, he just made an apolitical situation political. On the other hand, if a franchise owner or AD says, "OK, time to line up and pay respect to flag and country" political speech is being demanded of the player before he or she ever kneels. You just choose not to see it that way. Like I said, I don't agree with kneeling because I love my country, and what it's flag stands for, and would rather it not be completely appropriated by people who would have everyone wrap themselves in it or be labeled "un-American".

City is literally in a state of emergency. And they can't talk about it? I'm not sure I understand.

Is it the illegal aliens thing? I seriously don't know. I thought that's what they were referred to. Is that no longer PC?

He made a comment that might be interpreted as bigoted toward Mexican-Americans. I'm not convinced that it was or wasn't. I am convinced that NCSt and its network have a right to tell him he's not to make on air statements they are forced to defend or explain.

This is beyond RIDICULOUS!!!!

Are they here illegally??? YES!!!!

Are they US Citizens??? NO!!!!

What is the word for Non-citizens in a foreign country??? ALIENS!!!!!

Those here without Visa's ARE ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!!

This WOKE bullcrap is DESTROYING our country!!!
They aren't here illegally if claiming asylum. It is perfectly legal according to US laws.
Not saying the dude should lose his job over the comment.... But asylum seekers are not necessarily in the country illegally.

You dont need to bring this into work. I don't talk about religion or politics or anything controversial at work because we live in the movie Idiocracy and only certain topics are allowed by certain groups.

LOL, I just listened to the actual clip. I'm not sure about suspending him for it but it was dumb the way he just injected that into a point in the broadcast that just made literally no sense. Like it came out of nowhere, lol

^^This exactly. He deserves a good *** chewing behind closed doors, and perhaps a loss in pay like you said. A public indefinite suspension is simply catering to the woke mob.

He should have probably just kept his mouth shut. He should know by now that if you don't toe the company line you will get canceled. I know it's hard to just sit back and watch things like the illegal border crossing by millions of aliens from other countries keep happening and not do anything.

Maybe he just had enough and wanted to use his platform to get the message out since the paid media refuse to do it. He might have been expecting the punishment and just did what he felt was right for the people of El Paso. Guys like this wouldn't have to risk their careers to get the message out there if the government and the media did their damn jobs.

The fact this simple lesson of fourth grade civics has to be constantly explained makes me fear more for our republic than the presence of “illegal aliens”.

The good outcome from threads like this is it helps me update my Ignore roster. Been a few years since Covid debates so this is a good update.

He wasn't trying to get a message about anything. He made a dumb joke that probably got a bunch of laughs with the boys down at the country club.

It's a mess in El Paso, but being right doesn't always mean you have a platform. He's employed to call football games. I doubt the university or the network are happy. They have a right to expect him to stay in his lane on the air. He's a moron, but not because he thinks the border is a mess.
So the announcer, concerned for his country, speaks out against what is going on in El Paso and that's wrong. But the UK basketball team, who obviously don't speak for all fans or alumni, kneel for the Anthem because they are allegedly concerned for their race and they're hailed as heroes and brave? You're only allowed free speech if it aligns with Liberal logic. In a fair and just America our basketball team and coaches should've been suspended since it doesn't reflect the views of everyone. That's how this works right?

It was an unprofessional and inappropriate comment and deserves a sanction, not that his career needs to end over it. Now, let's start treating similarly unprofessional and inappropriate comments from woke sportswriters similarly. I can't even read the USA Today sports page without being subjected to multiple examples of wokeness that the majority of viewers could easily do just fine without.
I heard that Time magazine published an article about people exercising is rooted in white supremacy. Ok, i'm offended. Can we get the publisher suspended or fired? No? Why not? We all know why. This only works one way.

Whoever suspended that guy should be fired. Country collapsing with high prices, illegals, drugs, human trafficing, freaks and anti American rhetoric taking over the country while the real true Americans just sit back and take it.

The same people condemning this guy hail the kneelers, protestors and woke espn commentary. It all depends on if they agree with what’s being said. They say this doesn’t belong only because it doesn’t align with their personal views. They are hypocrites

The Mayor of El Paso (a Democrat) declared a state of emergency because of the influx of gasp.....illegals overrunning his city. He blamed the Federal government for doing nothing.

So Gary Hahn was spot on.

America 2022, soon to be 2023. What an absolute travesty. I don't care which side of the political spectrum you are on.
Can UK drop Learfield? If they think cancelling is cool, let them go.

Kind of the way I am thinking. Talk about it being political and should not be talked about but that is why the country is collapsing financially and morally because of people saying nothing. And whoever that kneeler was that suspended him just backed all the scum with that move.
