Why? It’s the current reality in El Paso. Illegal Alien is the correct term, it isn’t deragatory, it’s the official term used by our Govt.
But you know very well that's not the time nor the place to do that. You guys wanted the social commentary stuff out of sports but when something is mentioned you agree with, it's okay. That's hypocrisy. I do disagree with the suspension but you can't be mad when players get on a soap box on twitter or before a game but make a victim out of someone in the middle of their job trying to audition for a cable news show. This is simple stuff. Stick to sports. We read this here for a couple years.

Wut? I’m not mad, I think the suspension is stupid.
I don’t think stating an absolute fact is being political. It isn’t opinion, the mayor of El Paso declared an emergency, the bowl game was in El Paso.

It’s even more absurd that stating reality, using proper terms, is controversial because one segment of our country have rabbit ears.
We have an illegal immigration problem, it’s really bad in El Paso, trying to ignore it is how why got in this situation.

None of us would’ve even heard the comment if the idiots in charge hadn’t suspended him.

All he did was casually mention the State of Emergency in the city. This has been common parlance throughout sporting history. You insufferable morons are the ones who decided those are unspeakable, punishable words.

If it had been a plague of locusts I suppose that would be OK to mention. Of course only if democrats weren't responsible for opening the floodgates allowing them to come. Then it would be rAc1$T or some other ____ist ******** punishable by firing squad.

The First Amendment prohibits the Federal Givernment from limiting his speech: had he been standing in a national park, the Feds could not harass him.

The First Amendment does not protect speech an employer finds offensive. Get a job with one political party, and get caught speaking freely in support of another political party, and you Constitutionally lose your job.
Thank you. I really can't believe it's 2022 and people still don't understand what the First Amendment actually means.

Baloney. He voiced a truth which is his first amendment right. The fact he was censored for exercising that right should scare everyone on this board. You might be next.
So you obviously have no idea what the first amendment actually protects. Was he arrested for these comments? No? Cool, then his first amendment right wasn't violated.

While democrats do criminally use the government to violate free speech (see Twitter files example), they've found even more powerful ways to do it to society with Woke PC Cancel Culture.

Their fanatical goons have infiltrated nearly every establishment in society and implemented this bs. With the threat of Molotov cocktail for noncompliance.

You must follow the "progressive" doctrine or you're ****-canned and ostracized.

It's worse than anything ever attempted by any other religion.

Also, YOU clearly don't understand the First Amendment. An arrest is not necessarily required to trigger 1st Amendment protections. In this particular case, you are correct, but, you still don't know what you're talking about.

My two cents, it was a dumb *** thing to say at work, especially over the radio, but that being said, if I were the network owner, would have probably called him in on Monday morning and told him to knock off the commentary, and don't do it again. Was not worth being suspended over, IMO, given his long history in the position.

Even if you are right (or wrong), everything in life doesn't have to become a federal case.

I wish a lot more people applied this philosophy to a lot more things.

I'm surprised no one organized a candle vigil to protest the hurt caused by this jerkoff being crass.

Hoo boy. That’s not how it works. He was hired by a private employer. Not the government. If you say something your employer doesn’t like or they think distracts from the job (hint) they can suspend or fire you! By the way, that’s how the free market is supposed to work!

Now, if after saying that the cops bust in and black bagged him or shot him then yes your complaint would be valid.

The first amendment doesn’t mean your employer can’t punish you for saying something they don’t like at work. I’m not saying the border isn’t a mess, but this dumbassery about what the first amendment protects is everywhere online. I don’t know if ppl are stupid or intentionally obtuse.
Muricans and civics.

And we’re not talking overly complex legalese either.

We’re talking the “I’m calling 911 because you’re out of chicky nuggetsl” Muricans. And before anyone gets offended that falls on both sides of the aisle.

I've seen a lot of 'free speech' leftists who are all in with the mob of cancel culture. Their only true consolation is that they'll be eaten last.
Let’s not forget one of the first instances of “cancel culture” was during the invasion of Iraq when the Dixie Chicks were “cancelled” because they exercised their free speech and spoke out against it.

It’s overly knee jerk these days but it’s nothing new by any means.

Dumb thing to say, but not worth suspending over. I liked the good old days where the 1st Amendment allowed us to see who were the idiots talking, get a good laugh at their expense—but NOT cancel them.

Now if he had used terms like “wetback” or “spics” (and the like)..absolutely you can him.

It’s hilarious to read the “First Amendment doesn’t apply to private businesses you morons lol” while a few threads below this one is an enormous thread detailing specific and widespread instances of government coercion and direction for a private company to censor dissidents.

Yes, it is incredible that in 2023 America, there are still those that are naively or ignorantly unwilling to accept facts regarding government and big business coordination to silence American citizens that speak out against the agenda.

Funny how the political censorship only falls on one side, huh?

Round them all up and throw them out and this country would be shut down in a week. At least in my part of Florida it would. They’re the only ones doing work
Because this country's hyper-inflation and ever-rising cost of living combined with the stigma of doing this type of work makes it undesirable for many Americans. People deciding their time > than paying taxes to awful gov't and fueling corporate machine. Illegals gladly taking these jobs only keeps the wages down for Americans.

Not familiar with those sports writers so cannot comment on them. The NC State guy blatantly brought a hot button political issue into a sporting event broadcast. That is a no no. Doesn’t matter that what he said was basically true or not.
Uh, announcers and athletes don’t bring hot button issues to sporting events without getting suspended or fired? I missed that.

Sounds good, but it’s been this way for DECADES in Florida

I don't doubt you. The sentiment has been around for a long time as this country has devolved into what it is now, and become an extremely money-centric society. Those that have no chance of joining the rich club give up and now it's easier than ever to get by with little legit work. There's also been the development of the counter-culture of its ok to live a ****** economic life.

Why was he even talking about it on a football broadcast? Sounds like he needs to learn time and place.
El Paso is flooded with ILLEGAL ALIENS.

An ILLEGAL ALIEN state of emergency has been declared.

The convention center is being used to shelter thousands of ILLEGAL ALIENS.

The Sun Bowl Association canceled its 2022 Sun Bowl Fan Fiesta because of the ILLEGAL ALIEN invasion.

The National Guard has been deployed to the El Paso border because of the ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Uh .... But don't say anything about it!!!

If you want to upset a woke brainwashed liberal, say something TRUE.

Is it just the term "Illegal Alien" (correct, btw) that harms the ears of liberals or is the announcer casually mentioning the local crisis going on all around the game and affecting the event the problem?

Trying to understand the woke mindset.

It's a mess in El Paso, but being right doesn't always mean you have a platform. He's employed to call football games. I doubt the university or the network are happy. They have a right to expect him to stay in his lane on the air. He's a moron, but not because he thinks the border is a mess.
Yep. Wasn't there a Reds announcer who got fired for making comments about San Francisco? I seem to recall a very similar situation.

The right on Kaepernick silently acknowledging racial inequalities, “Cancel Kaepernick and keep politics out of sports. Shut up and play.”

The right on Calipari and his players silently acknowledging racial inequalities, “Cancel Cal and keep politics out of sports. Shut up and play.”

The right on a sports broadcaster making on-air remarks on immigration, “What about his First Amendment rights?”

WildcatBoston doesn’t know Jack **** about El Paso. Because if he did, he’d know about Juarez, Mexico. I doubt he has ever stepped foot there. He is a jankety *** white guy who virtues signals from his comforts. I’ve been to Juarez. It’s a mother effing nightmare. I am lucky I got back into El Paso alive. WildcatBoston doesn’t know ****.

And anyone coming from Juarez through El Paso aren’t good people.
