Just in time for football. I'm sure Directv will get me some ABC from somewhere. Maybe Memphis. If you got an antenna or rabbit ears your screwed.

WKDH to end broadcasting
(WTVA) — A local television station is going off the air at the end of the month.

WKDH is the ABC station.

Its owner, Southern Broadcasting, says it will end broadcasting at 11:59 p.m. on August 31 after more than a decade on the air.

ABC plans to continue airing programming locally, but the network has not said how it will do that.

Viewers
are being advised to call ABC at (212) 456-7777 to let the network know
they still want to continue watching their favorite ABC programs.

Cable and satellite viewers are being advised to call their provider.

Y'all will enjoy Memphis ABC especially the news.... stories; murder, house fire.... But at least there is sports right? Nope, NBA.

It is pie in the sky but maybe oneday DEsoto County will develop it's own TV station. 160,000 people has to be enough of a viewing audience for advertising dollars, etc.

but it used to be if you lived more than 60 miles or so away from a "local" network affiliate, you got the New York and LA stations for that network.

I don't know the distance requirement, but you are correct. My mother-in-law gets NBC and ABC network feeds because neither network has stations close. About 60 miles for one, 100 for the other.

I doubt that will ever happen.

In addition to their NBC station, and WLOX is doing the same with CBS and ABC on the coast.... Maybe WTVA is going to do that?

WTVA is already operating WKDH & WLOV. I guess WTVA dropped WKDH. Maybe WCBI could pick it up and keep it going. I wouldn't mind getting NY and LA feeds from Direct. I don't watch much on ABC but sports.

and we got the east coast AND west coast network channels. Back then they didn't use NY and LA for all the east and west network channels but ones from different cities. During football season there was the potential to see possibly 6 different NFL games on Sundays (we used an antenna to get Memphis channels). It was pretty awesome.

Yeah, not thinking very well when I posted that. There are probably the resources in Desoto County. However, the nationalstations probably have rules on the number affiliates within so many miles of each other. Also, the companies that own the Memphis stations would probably do everything they could to not allow another affiliate so close even if there weren't rules/regulations.

Anyway, I just need to shell out some bucks to get an attenna and watch Tupelo and Columbus.

You have to file a waiver request, meaning DirecTV sends a request for a waiver to the local station near you. You will never be able to get anyone on the phone that has any clue how they determine distance, i tried repeatedly dealing with this problem on the coast in 2008. I was outside of the FCC area for the stations that were blocking me, but couldn't get DirecTV to do anything about it. They just plug it into the computer and read the result. It's pretty expansive too, it's basically any area where you can pick up the signal with a pole-mounted mega-antenna. If the local station agrees or doesn't respond, then and only then can DirecTV unlock one or both of the NY/LA feeds, in one or both of SD or HD. The charge is something like $2-3 per option.

I would suggest trying a site like AntennaWeb to see what other ABC stations may be close enough to feed-block you.

When i was doing my tour in Starkvegas, we lost the localFOX affiliate. I nearly went apeshizznit. What about my Married with Children, In Living Color, Martin, Melrose Place? Some other localchannel with a different affiliation pickedit and started showing FOX primetime programming after the local news.

I get Channel 33 out of Birmingham with an antenna in the attic pointed due east. Their tower is actually north of Tuscaloosa.

I know espn has the sec contract and abc is in the same family but I don't remember to many games on abc. Just PAC 12 and big 12 teams in prime time. Just wondering will this really affect those of us in n. ms that much as far as football is concerned.

The abc station owned it (WABG) and it was basically only on the air when national programming was on???
