<h4>On football academics. . . </h4>
_________________________________________________

<div class="messagebody">The coaches are exploring options - the details of which
I do not know - on the future of WR/CB Nick Brassell, but beyond him, Coach Hugh
Freeze was ecstatic with the outcome of spring semester grades.

He told
us this morning that "every player" has put themselves in a position of being
able to be eligible in 2012. Some may have to do some more work in intercession
and summer, but they CAN make it.

On Brassell, the jury is still out
while different options are looked into, but 2012 eligibility is
bleak.

Considering where this team was when spring semester started, this
is pretty big and very positive news. Freeze is very pleased, he told us.</div>

Most posters in that thread on the Spirit were excited that the rest of the players had hope and NB had every chance, etc. One thing I did not see was anyone admit that he is/was the best player on that team BY FAR. Losing him could cost them at least one or two games - he was that good.

You can only wonder what would have happened to Brassell had he not gotten bought off by Ole Miss and gone to MSU or Bama and played for Mullen or Saben. I wonder if his grades would have ever gotten to the point they are now if would have been in a more disciplined structured environment from the outset? Sad story.

I don't think I've heard of any, which would speak wonders for the discipline that Mullen and staff are instilling in our players.<div>
</div><div>The only dropout from the team that I've heard about recently was Michael Carr. Who am I missing?</div><div>

under Saban. See what happened to Alonzo Lawrence. Guys from Mississippi that head to Bama don't seem to last very long if there is any smell of underachievement on them. Since Saban has been there, I can think of only one Mississippi guy (that he recruited and signed) who has survived: Anthony Steen.

Laziness is infectious and you don't want the possibility of morale suffering if one player gets coddled and propped up while Mr offensive lineman busts his *** for grades and his spot. <div>
</div><div>Saban doesn't need one player. His *** would have quietly hit the bricks after last season if he was in the rumored shape he was in. Saban wouldn't put up with the drama when he has other tools in the box.</div><div>
</div><div>Who knows if he would have came here. Mullen may have had to put a babysitter on him from day one and we still may be out a star WR this year. Both UM and MSU would have to go to much greater lengths to keep him on the field. Luckily it's UM problem to attempt to grab a miracles and loopholes to keep Brassell, and possibly anything that resembles a rebuilding season on track.</div><div>
</div><div>With that being said. I'll be floored if he isn't on the field the first game. </div>

I always thought he had the most potential out of the WR class that year, which included Bumphis, and Patterson. Guess we'll see how he does in his JR & SR seasons.

or Moncrief. Moncrief is a solid receiver, but there was something about Brassell that seemed like he was going to special and a thorn in our side for years.

there could actually be some truth behind that and he still got into Ole Miss. " The Harvard of the South" At this rate they could become "The Jackson State Of the SEC".

South Panola needs to start teaching these kids that they actually gotta go to class. Mullen or Saban wouldn't have changed much of anything.

All you have to pass is 18 hours a year that is a 17ing joke

Will need him to still be available when we do end up needing a new coach.

IMO, he has a very good season this year, and is a hot commodity in the offseason. Hopefully, no one makes him an offer he can't refuse**
