Nascar to take wins and points if cars are found to be illegal...finally

I know some of you guys hate Nascar but for those of us who do watch this is long overdue. Some guys like Harvick, who had an illegal car twice last season and still had a chance to win the title, will think twice before blatantly cheating now.

Seems like you are just making a boring sport more boring. Nascar needs people breaking the rules, wrecking people, and getting into fights. Preferably while smoking some Winstons and chewing tobacco, basically all you have now is watching people drive around the Watterson for hours at a time.

I doubt Harvick (or any of them) has ever said to his crew chief to raise or lower anything 1/16" in order to decrease drag in the straighaways, just to see if they could get away with it.. It's a nice thought, though.

If NASCAR really wanted to be a watchable sport again, it would go back to it's roots. The name NASCAR represents stock cars. These cookie cutter cars are far from stock.

So why not do this. Open it up to every make of car from Ford to Rolls Royce. Any car you can buy at a dealership. Each drivers' team buys the car at a dealership or goes to the junkyard and builds one. Old or new but it has to be a "stock car". Then you can build it for the track. You can soup up the engine, put on racing tires, and safety features like a roll bar, seat belt harness, etc. Then turn everybody loose and let them race. Don't measure the height, weight or width. Let the drivers and owners worry about that. Just open it up and race.

Growing up as a child I enjoyed watching a 40 Ford race along side a Hudson Hornet and an Olds 88. They were difference sizes, different engines and different years. This was real stock car racing. But NASCAR wient Hollywood with big time sponsors and the fans and spectators got screwed. If you do not have all of the rules, you cut down on cheating.

Exactly -- every driver should have to carry a case of moonshine in Mason jars, with tin foil covering them instead of lids, behind the driver's seat. For each tablespoon of spillage a 5 second penalty is added to your final time.

Oh, and they should also have a couple cars painted up as sheriff cars.

Orange 01 car with a Confederate flag on top would be badass.

Now you are talking. I like that.

But no NASCAR got above it's raising and went to Hollywood. So die NASCAR die and pass the jug as we throw dirt on their grave. Where is Marty when you need him.

They still have that on local dirt tracks all over the country every weekend.

Maybe not but they are the driver and the one who stands to lose the most if a car is found to be illegal.

True, and I guess it all trickles down, but the driver would seem to have the least amount of input in those matters.

I used to be a fan until they started going to cookie cutter cars and tracks, and mundane drivers with no personality. Not really related, but I'd love to see a NASCAR race where drivers were required to drink a six pack on an empty stomach in the drivers meeting, then 2 shots of tequila at each pit stop.

I have been done with NASCAR for awhile. If I want to see racing I will go watch late models, sprints and midgets get down and dirty on the dirt track. Sit back, get comfortable, all the while getting pelted with dirt and dirt clods. You sit close, you may want to wear a hard hat. Because until they get the dirt packed down, the **** is flying wherever it wants to go. Any dirt track is racing at its best. No frills, no cameras, no media, just "I am going to kick your *** twice kinda of racing." NASCAR has gone off the rails with where they have taken that side of racing. After Stewart called it quits, I was done.

At least NASCAR is real. The racing today from Daytona was pretty damn boring. No passing just get in line and follow the leader. I would imagine the 500 will be the same.

Johnson wrecked the whole damn field but was declared winner due to rain. [sick]. Doesn't count for anything but still terrible

I like Johnson but that was a dick move. He knew he was screwed when he saw the replay that showed him spin dude out.

While it wasn't a blatant turn right into the 1/4 panel or run into the car in front of him he did make a mistake by getting too close on the side draft. It is a byproduct of NASCAR's aero package for these Super Speedway's where the only way to pass is to create the side draft and slow down the care beside you. I saw Brian Kesolowski saying the same thing on Twitter last night.

All of NASCAR twitter on a regular day:

"These boys need to get back to rubbin and racin. Let 'em wreck each other!"

Jimmie Johnson spins a dude out on a pretty meaningless race:

"I cain't believe that jimmie wrecked that guy. what an ***!"

They have called him vanilla for years because he doesn't drive like Earnhardt and when he does they call him a dirty driver. :joy:

I agree. I think they should take the rules away, except for maximum HP and let the most innovative and creative team have an advantage. It would make it more interesting and force all the teams to get better.
