Jackson, TN, then down through Tupelo. I prefer it because it goes fast and you are not as likely to get stuck behind a daydreamer like the Trace.

The "quickest way" is to take I-40 West and cut through all those small towns (including Henderson, TN) and get to Corinth. If you can get through that one hour stretch, you can make it in 4. But it could take you longer and it takes you just the same.

If you chance it on the trace you can make it in 3.5

I've been doing this drive about 10-15 a year for the last 5 years. This is the quickest way - no if, ands or buts...

40W to Exit 108 - Hwy 22 South - take it to Adamsville. It's about 30 miles.

Turn right on 64W to Selmar (about 10 miles).

Hang a left on 45 South for another 2ish hours or so.

By doing this, you cut off the corner you have to do by going to Jackson and then going straight down. I usually drive 9 miles over the speed limit and it takes me 4:15 to get all the way out to Browing Creek near the refuge (I take 45 to Sessums Road though instead of getting off on 82).

What he said. Don't haul *** on 22 from I-40 to Lexington or on 64 (Bufford Pusser Hwy) between Adamsville and Selmer. Watch out for the red light camera in Selmer at 45 & 64 intersection. Rest of the trip hammer down.

I've been every way possible from Nashville to NE Miss., and the Trace is the shortest, fastest way to Tupelo.

You can boogie on it from Hohenwald to Tishimingo state park. I routinely run 65~70 and have gotten 1 ticket in 13 years.

their way by far the fastest. made it last year for the vandy game in 3 and half hours going up 45 and then through selmer (was going pretty fast though). was so hungover sunday and and pouring that i did not feel with dealing with traffic and took the trace and it took over 5 hours and felt even longer then that.

I varied my route each trip.

I'd either run I40 to Jackson and straight down HWY 45. If you do this, take the industrial park exit next to the baseball stadium and come around the East Jackson By-pass. Don't go all the way to the HWY 45 exit. 4 lane most of the way and you can haul ***!!!! It's a fast but high traffic route. Plenty of gas, restroom and food stops.

I've also taken 22 down through Lexington. Some small towns, two lane roads and a HWY Patrol HQs that you have to go by. 4 lane most of the way. Haul *** on I40 be careful around Lexington and roll pretty fast on HWY 45. About the same amount of traffic except for the Lexington leg. Plenty of gas, restroom and food stops.

The Trace. Nice relaxing drive. A slower speed but about the same amount of time. I ALWAYS set my cruise to 59 MPH and have passed many Rangers without getting stopped. Plenty of restrooms along the way but no place to stop for gas or food along the trace until you get off at Tupelo. No big deal though. On weekdays, I didn't run into much traffic at all. Had some days where I never saw another car. Weekend mornings and afternoons there are lots of bicyclist and motorcycle riders.

If you have a lead foot and like to drive fast, take the I40 route. If you want a relaxing drive, take the trace.

From 65 to bham and over thru Jackson Tn. My favorites are either the Trace (agreeance though a daydreamer will kill my time) or sometimes I get off 65 in Decatur and run thru rural Alabama i.e. Hamilton, Sulligent, Vernon to Columbus then 82 to Stark. Its not a bad trip either. between 4-4.5

It really depends on where you live in Nashville i.e north, west, south, east....I lived in Brentwood for 3 years and I now live in West Point, MS which is about 15 minutes from Starkvegas....My parents still live in Franklin and I make the drive regularly....I can honestly say that if you are coming from Franklin the best way to go is 65 S to Columbia then through Summertown then through Waynesboro then to Pickwick then to Corinth and then to Starkville, it's ane easy drive and is the quickest (plus you can fly) My aunt and uncle have lived in Corinth for over 20 years now and we lived in the Nashville area for over 10 so I've been driving that way for ten years....If you live east the best way to go is 840 to 65 S then follow above....If you live west the best to go is 40 W to 45 then to 45 Alt. then back to 45 all the way, it's boring but it'll get you there....and if you live north, anyone of these should do, haven't made the drive from the northside in a long long time....but when I get to the house tonight I'll post the directions I have to come from the southside of Nashville</p>

If you're on the south side of Nashville, it doesn't make any sense to drive out of your way to get on I-40 and go all the way over to Jackson and head down 45. Likewise, if you're over on West End or in Bellevue it doesn't make any damn sense to drive south out of your way to get to 65.

I like the trace, but only if you go through Columbia first and get on the trace at 412. Traffic on the trace is never a problem. However, it does get really boring and there's nowhere to stop.

My favorite way as of late is to take 65 south into Decatur, 24 into russellville, and 43/17 into Hamilton where 78 picks up. That'll take you to Tupelo and then you can go wherever the hell you want in NE Mississippi. Takes right at 3.5 hours to Tupelo driving a little over the speed limit and there's plenty of stopping places. Like I said though, I live on the south side of Nashville.

Imake the drive from Nashville to Starkville about 3 times a month. This is absolutely the best way if your leaving from actual Nashville. If leaving from Brentwood, Franklin, or anything elseI'm not real sure. But I live in GreenHills and it's 4 hrs 15 min from there.

I am coming from Lexington, KY. I do most of my driving at night to get down there (leaving between 5-5:30 after work) and coming the 8.5 hours straight. I personally prefer the Jackson, TN route because there are plenty of places to pull over if you get tired as well, while still being in civilization. I have gone the Birmingham and Trace routes as well. I take the Trace if I will be driving in the daytime, but at night, Jackson, TN, or some variation of it, is the best for me.

I do agree to an extent with Sutterkane, his last way I have driven several times and when I drove it it was pretty quick, but was still about 5-10 minutes longer...from Tupelo to West Point it is about 40-45 minutes depending on how ballsy you want to drive (however in that stretch the only place to be mindful of HWY Patrol is around Tupelo and Booneville, don't worry about Sheriff's and city police in MS only certain counties can run radar on HWY's and they're not on that stretch) and then from West Point it takes 15 minutes to get to Starkville....So going that way through AL you're looking at about 4 hrs and 25 minutes on the low end...Whereas I've run a flat 4 from Nashville to West Point, so that would put you at about 4 hours and 15 minutes....However the last time I went through 24 into Russellvile (I believe it was) they were doing construction so the last few times I ran it it took a little longer....But either way, I'd say you have your pick between Sutterkane last route and the one I gave earlier....Just do yourself a favor, do not take the Trace at least if you do get off of it before Tupelo! bogs down and no one wants to put the hammer down!

I take a similar way from Decatur down to Starkville, but I avoid 78 and Tupelo. Instead, from Hamilton I stay on AL-17S through Sulligent and Vernon and get on AL-18W in Vernon. You can go pretty fast most of the way, especially on the 4-lane road they have between Sulligent and Vernon. The towns are small enough that you only have to slow down to 45 for a total of 3 miles, tops. Best part is you avoid the West Point lights on 45.

taking a child to Belmont University. The GPS selected this route from Starkville and it took about 4 hours 20 minutes - not bad at all.

Unless you're in AN ABSOLUTE HURRY, the Natchez Trace is the nicest drive you can have. Go from Nashville to Tupelo, then hit 45 to 82.

If you have the time, just put the car into cruise control, put on some good music, and enjoy the scenery. If you have time, visit some of the stopping points. The Trace is very scenic between now and December.

big twists and turns and you really can't go over 45.

Past Hohenwald you can really get it if you're not worried about park rangers. I go 80 regularly on the trace when I drive it.

Ever tried turning on CR 38 at Detroit before you get to Sulligent and going through Splunge, Greenwood Springs and Aberdeen. Its 20 minutes quicker.

west to Russelville, south to Hamilton then either staying straight south through Hamilton and turning right just past Hamilton Bath Works on River Road (CR35) and staying on it till it hits 17 again or hitting 17 in Hamilton and turning on CR38 and ending up in Greenwood Springs and taking 8 to Aberdeen and then on to 45. If I take the River Road way, I almost always turn west on 278 at Sulligent and pick up with 8 to Aberdeen. I know going on down through Vernon to Columbus is popular but I just don't like it. Through Aberdeen is minimal, minimal traffic--got to watch for deer/wildlife if near dusk.

When I lived in HSV I went Decatur-Russellville-Red Bay down to 78 on 25 then to Tupelo. I could get door to door in 3.5 hours, sometimes less if I didn't stop. No traffic that way, either. I'm interested in seeing how much time bypassing West Point saves you.

I've been on every road in North Alabama and I wasn't a big fan of this particular way.

If you go on HWY 25, no need to go through Tupelo. Catch 25 at state line at Red Bay andgo through Smithville, Amory and Aberdeen on 25 then to 45A.
