That was a very well wrtten piece

i'd love to see him win at least one pennant before he calls it a day, a world series title would be icing on the cake.

Best article (period) that I have read in some time. Really well done

Start to finish. No fluff, no garbage. Just a really insightful piece on someone that everyone thinks they know is just an ***. Great rep for MSU. Never will get the true respect he deserves for what he has done in MLB.

Best quote by a bulldog ever made...

I pointed out the photo of him as a much younger Buck, with Angela and Nate. "He was in third grade then," Showalter said. "We were living in Florida, where we had a house on the water." During a hurricane that year, Buck was walking his oldest dog, Sader, on the dock when Sader fell in the churning water. Buck jumped in to save him and began sinking in the muck. "The water was maybe five feet," said Buck, " but I thought, what a way to go. I tried to push Sader up onto the dock but he was too heavy. Angela came running down the dock, screaming, 'Push him up to me!' I said, 'What about me?' She said, 'I'm pulling up Sader first.' So, I'm pushing up this 80-pound dog while I'm sinking into the muck and his balls are flapping in my face and Angela's pulling him up."

Buck was interested in the State job when Polk retired for the final time. He was out of baseball and working at Espn. Not sure if he would have eventually taken the job had it been offered, but once Polk said he wasn't supporting anybody but Raffo, Buck had no interest in going against a guy he played for. He didn't want to get involved in that soap opera. Of course every coach in the country pulled out from consideration. Except Cohen.

Buck would either be the best or worst college coach in NCAA history. In 2014 at least. He'd mind 17 the other team but he'd have as hard a time as anyone identifying with 16 or 17 year old recruits. You imagine Fitts playing for Showalter? That PowerPoint would have meant an indefinite suspension.

That last paragraph is what got me. Seems like as genuine as a person you'll ever be around. Glad he's a bulldog.
