Yes

But we have bigger space for him

Duke is filled with other frontcourt and wing options

Yeah I just looked at their class. They have Boozer and Khamenia, as literal 6-9 PFs. What may happen is Ament decides to go there, but I have to imagine someone decommits, Probably the lesser of the 3. Someone in that group is not getting playing time at the position they prefer.

Anyone hear a date? I saw somewhere where’s he’s targeting a decision late February-early March. Would have to assume he visits for one of the upcoming home games. South Carolina Saturday is a bore to pick so maybe UT next Tuesday night? That’s when his Kansas St visit was scheduled for that he just cancelled.

Would be odd to watch UK-UT twice in just a couple of weeks! I do think his girlfriend goes to UT so who knows how that impacts anything in the recruitment(could be wrong here obviously).

I will assume he goes to Duke, UL, or UT until I have any reason to believe otherwise.

Obviously NIL and relationships will drive the decision. But have to wonder if you’re Pope about selling him on the idea of being our starting 3? Feel like all these tall lanky dudes want to be perimeter players instead of battling down low.

But yes I think he is duke to lose

Already been there three times

Also, agree with you, think Evans will transfer or one of Khamenka and Henderson will decommit if Ament commits to Duke, if they stay with Duke, they will play less than 15 mins

I’d love UK to land this guy, but if I’m Ament’s agent, my dude would be the last guy left on the Big Board!

I know some will say, most NIL budgets would be spent by then, but there’s always a big fish or two that will come up with the goods to fill their roster out with a top 5 prospect!

Ament will be their 3 and Khamenia a bench guy.

No school gets more top rated players to sign knowing they’ll be bench guys than Duke does.

It's amazing isn't it? It's also kind of scummy. Another thing Duke does that I don't think other schools do nearly as much, is over recruit. Honestly they shouldn't even be going after Ament as they have TWO PFs now. Say what you will about Cal's recruiting, he usually loaded up on ALL positions. We never really recruited 3 of the same positions, all at the same talent level, all at once. Because someone in this situation is being lied to.

If Ament is their 3, than that means their other SF might be the one to decommit. But the funny thing is, they won't decommit. How, I don't know. But they will keep these guys through false promises most likely, and then they will transfer out.

Like if I was Khamenia I'd be on the phone with Scheyer asking him why he's recruiting a player who plays the same exact position as me..

If UK is willing to offer him what we offered Wilson, we might have a shot at him.

It's kind of pathetic that we keep getting outbid for primary targets.
Always has to be an asterisk next to statements like this or the words allegedly or supposedly.
You never see a kids NIL deal scrolling across the bottom of the screen on Sports center.

We also need to think about giving Pope a little extra early in his career. It's his first year, he's doing what he can while not having built much of a "name" for himself. So id be fine giving Ament the highest offer. If it doesn't pan out, oh well. But securing a top5 type player for Pope will only pay dividends down the road.

Sheyer is the pied piper and they are all lining up and following him, never mind only 5 can play at a time.

Duke's appeal has always been that they convince parents that by sending your kid to Duke, you're doing the absolute best you can do for them.
Parents of OAD still buy into the superior academic thing even though it doesn't really matter
You have to tip your hat to their marketing of the school.
The Duke offer is still the most coveted in HS basketball.

We need to get a top 5 kids and have a great season followed by getting him drafted. I agree. Give him what he needs that way no coach can say well how would you do there?

Exactly. And further.. what about this 5mil a year we are saving by not having Cal, or worse having to do part of his buyout?

Imo that $5mil a year should go right towards NIL and improving the basketball program.

Now I know that can't happen for many reasons.. but man, if we could just take a few million of that, we could really set ourselves up.
