Vega originally a Cornell recruit and a Robideau Minnesota. Supposedly flipped the Raneys and took Ross out of the state of Iowa. DT has something special going on. I hate to say it.

Alright - sue me

Block not cutting so much, and a healthy offseason and he’s looking like a scrapper out there. This weekend should put 149 on notice.
I took it he meant Iowa fans like making things up. Maybe I'm wrong.

How was Ohio state news so quiet over the summer and actually have a chance at taking out Iowa?
Everyone knew about Davino, who always figured to displace Bouzakis at 133. What wasn't obvious was that Bouzakis could be effective at 125. In fact, the jury is still out on that over the course of a 4-month season.

Also, for a while most folks figured that the oft-injured Kharchla would not be back for 2025-26.

Canon came on at end of last season, so him doing well isn't a surprise. And, as noted before, Fishback is a nice transfer addition at 184, but didn't move the needle like some of the other transfers (Facundo, Ryder, Welch, Bailey, Ferrari, etc).

Most of the other starters (Mendez, Gallagher, Feldman) were known entities.

Zack Ryder (OKST) vs. Angelo Ferrari (Iowa)

Period 1:
Ferrari starts on 1-knee. Ryder gives it a try too. Circling, tapping & hand fighting on 1-knee, then back to their feet. Ferrari on 1-knee in the center. Ryder circling around him. Tying up & circling now. Ferrari back to 1-knee in the center. Back to their feet. Tying up for a bit. Ferrari goes back to 1-knee. Ryder shoots, but Ferrari down blocks him off. Circling, Ferrari working an underhook on the edge & then they work back to center. Stoppage for something. Tying up & hand fighting on their feet. Ryder looks for an underhook, but no luck. Ferrari goes back to 1-knee, then comes to his feet & throws in an underhook, but time expires. 0-0

Period 2:
Ryder takes down. He works to his feet. Ferrari drops to a leg & elevates it & they go out of bounds. Ryder is still down. Ryder works back to his feet, then sits out & spins for the escape, 1-0. Ferrari immediately picks an ankle & quickly finishes the TD, 3-1. Out of bounds & restart. Ryder starts down. He works up, then rolls & gets the escape, 3-2. Ferrari goes back to 1-knee, then comes up to his feet. They tie-up. Ryder presses forward, taking Ferrari to the edge. Ferrari circles back to center. Ferrari presses forward now. He has Ryder on the edge. Tying up & hand fighting to end the period. 3-2 Ferrari

Period 3:
Ferrari takes down. Ryder tries to throw a boot in. Ferrari fights it off & works to his feet. Ryder elevates the leg. He has Ferrari bouncing on 1-leg & tries a trip, but his leg is too short to reach Ferrari's other leg. Out of bounds & restart. Ferrari is still down. He works to a quadpod, but Ryder grabs an ankle & trips him back to the mat. Ryder throws in a boot. Stoppage & Ryder gets warned for hanging on the leg. Ferrari works to his feet, gets hand control & the escape, 4-2. Ryder pushes forward & has Ferrari on the edge, but is just pushing. Ferrari reverses position & reaches for a leg, but they go out of bounds. Ryder throws in an underhook & pushes forward. He tries a straight on shot & Ferrari blocks him off. Ryder pushes forward & Ferrari throws him by & out of bounds, restart. Ryder pushes forward & takes another straight on shot. Ferrari circles away. Ryder pushes forward again, but Ferrari easily fights him off for the 4-2 win.

Ryder isn't very dynamic on offensive. He's really good at pushing opponents across the mat with his underhook, but he wasn't able to do anything with that against Ferrari. I never noticed the short arms before the T-rex jokes. That's gold! Ankle picking with short arms is a real challenge. After watching Rocco & Ryder wrestle, I think we got the better guy. Rocco appears to have a more diverse offensive toolkit & a greater reaching ability.

Angelo Ferrari DEC Zack Ryder 4-2
Does he have small hands by chance

Not for long though. 2027 and 2028 will be crazy.
PSU losses 1 in 2027. 2028 on could be closer. I would love to see at least 5 teams in it + PSU: Iowa, tOSU, OSU, VT, Neb, and maybe Cornell. Who else? IS, NCS. Mind you, I want PSU to win 8 in a row. But closer is better for the broader college wretling fan base.

So who wins later today? Iowa or tOSU?

Endene is 3-0 in this event with a fall over #15 Bates and a 4-3 dub over #10 Merrill. I like seeing the former D3 champ having success at D1.
Every now and then you spot a guy at the lower levels that you know would be a tough out for just about anyone. I wish Joey Davis gave D1 a go a few years back. @Corby2 any reason the kid from GV that made the u23 word team hasn’t gone D1?

Hey, why are the Brands brothers like a Vega.? They have aluminum heads that tend to warp.
Had a Vega in the 70’s. Drunk driver hit
Me head on, thankfully at a relatively slow speed. Engine came right through the fire wall and burned my leg. Head went 1/2 through the windshield, … so it was a bit like getting stretched out by Zain. They cut me out and hauled me off to a brand new hospital … where they had piped the emergency room gases improperly. Instead of oxygen they fed me nitrous oxide which gave me a blue hue. Luckily, I was soon move to the OR where the gases were piped properly. Every time I hear the word Vega …. I think about that cheap *** piece of junk.

Sinclair wins 6-3 with some heavy top stalling in the 3rd. Still, 184 is officially bananas.
The upper tier of 184 this year is very impressive. And the great news for us wrestling fans is that four in that tier are only freshmen or sophomores. I am placing Sinclair in that upper tier, but not Ryder after this weekend's results.

what's up with Ryder did he score all his points for the yr in the all star match??
Allred is big and strong- which is also ryders skillet … still a freshman figuring it out - and Allred is a multiple time AA … Ryder will end up as an AA this year - glad we have Rocco

Ryder is not big. His length or lack of will hurt him when he can’t bully D1 wrestlers with an under hook and one move. He will need to improve greatly to AA. Far from a sure thing

Agreed - I was referring to strength and trying to outmuscle people - Allred is hard to out horsepower

Ryder looked incredible in the all-star classic. So we know that version exists. When DT finds that version of Ryder again, look out.

He looked incredible against a guy that lost to JV Gabe Arnold and Issac Dean last year .. outside of that all star match all of Ryder college matches against NQ level guys have been exactly the same. Low scoring 1 takedown matches struggling to score

Allred is a one time 7th place finisher… he is a 6th year grown man though.. very glad we have Rocco , 184 looks like a gauntlet this year

I think Iowa wins. I think they’re likely better trained for a fourth match in 2 days. Even without Kueter.
