True, but Kasak has suffered a "WTF" type loss in each of the two NCAA tournaments he's been in. In2024 NCAA against Abas of Stanford, and then in 2025 in a strange bout against Joey Blaze of Purdue in the 2025.
I'm not sure i would classify a true freshman dropping his first in match at any nationals to Abas as "wtf" type loss. I certainly wouldn't classify losing to Joey Blaze as a "wtf". Either way, your point does stand. I just think us fans are a little quick to call guys bad or dismiss their talent because they're not the elite of elite. Abas and J. blaze have insane talent.

Ryder and Alex go down, I guess they've regressed.......💀💀☠️☠️

Cael stunted their growth. Could take a season or 2 for them to recover their elite skills. 😜

If OK state losses round 1......

Penn State is growing the sport by abstaining from this tournament and graciously avoiding fans' domination fatigue.

I agree about Blaze. In fact, I think Joey is sometimes prone to drop matches he shouldn’t. Since I know you’re not referring to Gerry Abas, I can’t agree with you there. I chalk that loss up to young guy jitters vs old guy experience. Tyler should’ve won that one and I guess I never saw the “insane” talent in Jaden that you did. I’m not critiquing Tyler either - when he went “Statue of Liberty” on Teemer it was like Christmas morning for me. I hope he wins it all every year.

I think we could probably say non-wrestling fans aren't watching this no matter when its held.
Agreed. I think they'd have a better chance on a random weekday in January or weekend in February and only from people that already root for a school in general that gets invited.

Not on pay-per-view anyway. If the rich guy from Oklahoma really wanted to promote wrestling nationwide, he could have used his money to get this entire tournament on TV somewhere, not just the finals. Even cable is better than Flo for promoting the sport to non-wrestling fans.

I'm surprised to hear the number of people dogging this tournament. Who cares whether casual fans tune in. It's middle of November and we're getting a weekend of great, high-level wrestling. We're getting a ton of ranked match-ups that we typically wouldn't be getting this time of year. I'll watch this over the Luther Open any day!

No - it’s great. We’re just reacting to the Ryan and Manning and Goodale, etc. B.S.

The tournament is just fine. The juvenile, little-brother whining about who’s not there, less so.

I mean seriously, if psu not being there is somehow stunting the growth of the sport, what does that say about what you contribute to it?

If the goofs want to help grow the sport, make your own program great.
After Kurdelmeier built Iowa into a national power Iowa fans became the biggest and loudest support group. Minnesota interest increased dramatically after JR built the Gophers into a championship winning power. PSU's fan following grew ten fold after Cael arrived. If Ryan could annually compete with and occasionally beat PSU OSU's following would increase dramatically. Big crowds showing up for the PSU showdown just to watch PSU bytch slap the Bucks over and over eventually becomes tiresome. Rutgers fan following would explode if Rutgers were to become a dominant program.
The college wrestling coaches who are failing the biggest in "growing the sport" aspect of things are Tom Ryan, Rob Koll, Mike Grey and Scott Goodale.

Add in Brands. If someone randomly turns on a match and sees someone constantly backing away, they won't be interested.

In reality, that would have been a colossal waste of money. The sport of wrestling "is what it is".

I couldn't include Brands with that group because other than his refusal to compete against PSU other than when mandated he does put his best team on the mat to accept their beatdown. Also, in Brands eyes it is his fault the Hawks can't beat the Nits. Ryan, Koll and at least in Mike Grey's spokesperson's opinion, Mrs. Grey, the reason their teams can't compete with Cael's teams is because it is Cael's fault. Ryan, Koll and Mrs. Grey always cause me to wonder if they post on HR because they whine and utter words of stupidity as frequently and as impassioned as some of the most ridiculous HR posters.
I really enjoy making fun of TnT, but they compete and accept their *** kicking with the understanding that if they want to make it stop it is on them. I can't say that about Ryan, Koll or Mrs. Grey. Goodale doesn't usually whine, but since he felt a need to jump in - well Goodale's coaches a program that sits in the middle of the same gold mine of talent as Cael does. There is no reason for Rutgers to not be a freaking wrestling power, and if they were the Rutgers' fan following would rival PSU's and Iowa's.

Is Pitt the Rutgers of PA, or is Rutgers the Pitt of New Jersey?
