Ohio st 125 -141 looks good, a little light until heavy vs the good guy they may win 2 possibly 3 at best. As for Iowa they will have to work hard not to get smoked.
If you put in Keuter at heavy who is 3-0 vs Feldman and reverse the pin ( Busakis is cutting a lot and likely would have gassed if the match went on) Hawks win that dual. Early season and a long way to go. Obviously Iowa isn’t beating Penn State this year but I think they are much better then that version of the team.
You go to Penn State to win national championships. That's what we do!

Ohio State over performed and Nebraska under performed.. I thought Okie St. had some great performances. Iowa is in for a long year, those dudes are wrestling so tight and not shooting at all.

If I was twenty years younger, buff, had hair, and was rich, I'd be a much better version of myself.
I think iowa has a good chance to win the rematch.
TOSU will be a good test. Bonus at 141 and favorite at heavyweight. A lot of the other matches will be tossups. Luke is a better wrestler than Nic but there’s a threat of a big move. 133 can go either way and Cannon looks good at 157. Fishback wrestling well at 184 that’s a one takedown match either direction.

Bouzakis has yet to gas at 125. Gotta give credit where due. But i'm sure Tan Tom will ruin that by EOY.

- The National Duals are a good thing. Was fun. simply call them that - The National Duals Tournament. Winner doesn't mean anything from an NCAA Championship. At time there was a lot of announcer hype of 'duals are great' but at other times you heard a lot of pre-season, early season challenge types of comments. Can't have it both ways
- How do you grow the sport if the only way to watch is through flo (assume you had to pay). Would be good to know the ESPN2 ratings - hope that did good! (up against some fball)
- OhioSU looks good and will give PSU a battle. A few matches could go either way (bad luck per se) and make things very interesting
- Okie State looks good as well. Freshman will probably get better and they will have high seeds based on their conference battles
- Hope they did make money and the purse is larger next year. Wonder how much the travel, etc., costs per team for the event.
- Ryan was out of line mentioning PSU outside of simply 'wishing' they were there. You want to wrestle the best. However, he could have acknowledge that he has them on their schedule. He may be a nice guy but he seems to be worried about his image too much which is ruined with his dumb comments.

I saw a bunch of teams in early-season form and one team in mid-season form. It was clear that Ryan had gone all in to get ready for this event.
The Bucks scored 12 of their 27 points at 125 and 285. Both of those results could be reversed next time. It will be hard, though, for the Hawks to become more aggressive. Leg attacks are a dying art form in Iowa City.
It was a tournament. Think Iowa underperforming is normal.
Agree on all……except bonus at 141. AN should be able to keep it close. He is dangerous as a scrambler and Mendez may not be able to just let it fly like he did last night.
Ran Tom clearly had his team focused on performing really well last night and it was a very smart play. Easier to do when none of your guys are repping the US in freestyle. Collect the cash and establish yourself as the front runner………of the pack.
OTOH, the Hawkeyes got three of their wins and three of their four takedowns in single takedown SV matches. So those could have gone the other way quite easily.
It's hard to put a shine on a match where you get one regulation takedown as a team. But people will try.
I've been saying since last year that going to a knee while not engaged with your opponent for longer than reaction time should be an automatic stalling. There is no objective purpose except to prevent either wrestler from doing anything. If you go to a knee and come right back, that's fine, and if you go to a knee while you're tied up, that's fine, too, but disengaged and staying in that position is not actually wrestling.
Angelo Ferrari is the worst offender of this, and it's a shame because when he gets off a knee and actually wrestles, he is really good, so there isn't even a reason for him to do this.

They also won their first dual by having four guys win without getting a single takedown between them, so it wasn't like the Ohio State match was an outlier.
OSU generally begins the year needing to get in better shape and they build as the year goes and by the EOY their conditioning is strong. Ryan obviously targeted this event as an early season peak and he had his Bucks ready to go. It will be interesting to see how such a strong October conditioning regimen plays out throughout the season to season's end.
McCrone beat Bouzakis at Clarion already. Ohio State typically has a public wrestle-off tournament but I haven't seen anything like that this year. Do we know if Bouzakis is even the starter since they split matches this weekend? I've never been impressed with McCrone and thought Kilkeary was a better option last year, but now he appears to be really buried (and I would guess portal bound at some point).
The thing about results reversing next time. 125 probably isn't going to be a pin, but I think Peterson will struggle to beat Bouzakis. Ayala simply got outwrestled, 141 isn't switching, 149 isn't changing, neither is 157. 165 I would always expect Caliendo to win, but i really believe he is in a HEBW funk.174, 184 and 197 are all tossups.
I believe there is a stronger likelihood OSU reverses some of the bigger weights than Iowa reverses the lower weights.

I will continue to feel the same way. The thing is that it's up to the NCAA to enforce it that way. If they're not going to make that a rule and call it, then it's not cheating and I don't blame Angelo for doing it. I just don't like it and think they should change the enforcement.
If you drop to a knee and shoot right away (i.e. as part of the act of shooting), that would be covered under "reaction time" and should be OK.
I dont recall any of Caels guys wrestling from a knee, at least for a significant amount of time. And I will never change my opinion either, even if a PSU wrestler does it. Im all for an automatic stall call.

Did they hit Robles for stalling? Many styles are boring and not appealing that doesn't mean it's "stalling". Most fans don't understand stalling and how it's called they just like yelling at clouds

Ill echo the thoughts of several posters here. This was a good in season tournament. And it produced some good individual matchups.
I prefer higher end tournaments like the Scuffle or Cliff Keen. But that's just my opinion.

I wonder what the break even point was for teams. Although i guess there would be matches regardless, so perhaps the travel costs are already built into budgets. Or donors helped with costs.

Normally I prefer to stay out of the fray with ‘the professionals’, but this reference to Anthony Robles is just plain stupid. Be better.
Tom is going to give Bouzakis every chance to win the spot.
So not sure how/when this gets decided. But McCrone keeps winning and does have the H2H (which Tom doesn't value much). It might honestly come down to an in-house wrestle off some time before big tens.
I don't know the solution, but I know damn well that wrestling on one knee won't grow wrestling.

Wonder what the official referee judgement is when a wrestler is on their knee in neutral. I would think that if said wrestler does not move forward then it is stalling.
Also some interesting calls on the OB for stalling. Some were clear push outs. Regardless it looked like a 'focused' effort to call.

Some wrestlers left this dual meet tournament pretty banged up. Rarely do you wrestle 4 high-level opponents in two days. That typically only happens at Big Tens (maybe) and NCAAs. I’m wondering if some coaches may be forced to rethink this now.
