Running the triple option. KSU only had a month to prepare for it, but I’m sure Navy had better athletes**

K State didn't do a terrible job with the option. Their offense was horrific for most of the day though.

“Niumatalolo also has this question: “What makes you think you’re gonna beat somebody doing the same things with lesser (talent)?”
“For the life of me, I don’t understand all these other schools, they go to the spread and they go uptempo like everybody else, and they add kerosene to the fire,” he says. “Wait – you’re not as good as them and you’re doing the same thing and expecting to beat them?”

KSU beat us this year? We had Joe and home field advantage. Navy beat KSU. They had smaller, slower players, neutral field and the triple option. But you think Joe’s system is better here than the triple option?

Not that I support installing a triple option, but I don't think that's a great argument. Johnson won 4 division titles in 11 years at GT, had a better winning % than Mullen did here, and consistently won more than their recruiting rankings suggested. If he hadn't whiffed on offering Nick Fitzgerald, he'd probably have won 6 or 7 division titles.

The triple option would seriously run the program into the ground. State may as well shut down football operations if we had to resort to offenses run by military schools and low tier ACC schools.

That's a quick way to be sure all in state talent goes to OM.

They were also in the equivalent division as the SEC East pre-Kirby Smart at UGa. Those titles that Mizzou and UF were winning before then getting destroyed by whoever came out of the West very well could have been Mullen’s had we been in the East. You could probably add at least 2 wins to our record almost every year if we had been playing Vandy, UT, and South Carolina every year and barely seeing a single ranked opponent all year. That division of the ACC wasn’t having to go through Clemson and a then top 10 FSU. They certainly weren’t going through the SEC West to get there.

Actually I remember a Paul Johnson triple option team beating our *** three times- In 2008, 2009, and 2014. They put up 38, 42, and 49 points on our *** in doing so.

So the fact the GT beat us during Croom, 1st year of Mullen, and the Orange bowl with No DC and Mullen probably job shopping means that we should just go with their offense. How many top 10 wins did Paul Johnson ever have. I would bet Mullen had more (going by rankings at the time).

I think we should run the best offense we have for the players we have that freaking year!! When we have a good year recruiting we are still 10th in the SEC. Why can we not run the best defense/offense for who we have. Went to see Army/Navy game. They would both beat our asses!! And never throw a pass!!

Wow this thread turned.
I didnt take the OP's point to mean the triple option is what we should run.
I took the OP's point to mean that a team we lost to, just lost to a slower and smaller program that runs what some consider to be a simpler/more predictable offense.
