Anyone can take advantage of it - just complete the required credits.

My girls decided NOT to do this so to enjoy the end of senior year festivities. It's not difficult.
Public or private? Things may have changed a lot over the years, but I remember finding the flexibility of public HS friends scheduling odd until university where you did get that flexibility. The only options I remember having were a couple fine arts credits and where you wanted to start math freshman year. Everything else was pretty standard outside of choosing the level (college prep, honors, or AP).

I would assume they could "graduate early" by taking the HSE (the new GED), and going from there. Similar to Bryce Harper.
For the "full story," that's what one twin did. She has a chronic illness - surgery at the start of junior year. I just had her get her GED/HSE after first semester junior year and she took classes at Harper her "senior year," and goes on to get a 30 ACT and is now at DePaul for her second year.

Only public schools.

If you go to a private school, you accept their standards for graduation and they are accredited to graduate students as they deem fit.

GED/Bryce Harper route only works if you then go to a JUCO first and then become a transfer student. 4 year university won't accept direct admit with GED

Naz has never had a player leave at the semester of his senior year, to enroll in college, to be able to participate in spring practice? If my memory serves me correctly, I believe MCC in the last 12 years had 3 players that left before the spring semester of their senior year.
They had enough credits to graduate from the school in 3,1/2 years.

From what I've heard, more than one has tried, but because of their religious ed. requirements...Naz hasn't allowed anyone to graduate at the semester.

My kid did not get admitted to DePaul as a transfer - she got in with a GED as a freshman and the couple of classes she took at Harper meant nothing except she did not have to take English 101 or a 100-level bio class.

All students are required to take religion all four years while at Mcc. However, if they had the credits to graduate early, they didn't hold the religion requirement over them!

Interesting topic. FWIW I have zero problem with Naz or any private school keeping less flexible standards on graduation requirements and I have zero problem with a student and their family exploring more flexible options, public or otherwise (as I'm sure would Naz admin). If this rumored "issue" is real, I hope the best for this unknown student.

Epic,

Leaving the young man out of the discussion for certain and no intentions to speak for him. However, regarding the topic of early graduation from Naz, what I reported is factual and first hand knowledge from actual discussions I had with administrators about my own child(left Naz with a 4.24 gpa). It’s unfortunate that they remain resistant to the idea of allowing a student to graduate in January and walk with their class in May as other Catholic schools in the greater Chicagoland area.

what info and where? I see neither the kid nor Nazareth speaking for themselves here...

But we are assuming this discussion is ongoing with said unnamed student. Unless it's scrawled on the street in LaGrange Park and I missed it.

This thread is a giant hypothesis about two parties, neither of whom is represented here, nor proven to even be involved in this current discussion.

I get your experience, but that is not the current situation, it's your situation. And we don't even know the current situation is real.

My guess is the unnamed kid cares about Benet...

I would venture to guess a big reason the vast majority of Catholic schools in the area do not allow this is due to tuition loss.

i bet if the option was to graduate in 3.5 year but you have to pay semester 2 tuition up front I bet a lot of families would consider it.

I think more kids prefer to be in high school. It is not that hard to do in public schools, but a very small percentage go through with it.

EPIC,

You are correct about part 1 it is completely hypothetical and hence no reason to discuss the student athlete. Since the topic was brought up and it was about graduating early, I gave my experience and also qualified that the policy has not changed. To answer the posters question about tuition, I would have gladly paid the second semester had my son been asked to graduate early and been approved. In our particular case, I suppose Naz did us a great service in preventing my son from graduating early and becoming an Illini!

I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear what the "word on the street" is saying about Naz' current policy regarding student/athletes' options to graduate early.

It's a different ball of wax trying to be a freshman starter at the QB position compared to some others

Exhibit A, JT Daniels. Daniels lost only 4 games as a starter in high school. Now that he is at USC, starting as a true freshman for only the 2nd time in USC history, we can see how that is working out.

It is possible that coaches and parents are expecting too much of these kids by not allowing them finish out there high school years. They are only going to be a high school senior once, and if talented enough can play college ball for 5 years.

Well Daniels didn't have the benefit of being there in January for spring ball.... that's kinda the entire point of this conversation

Actually my entire point was that if you go in January you actually get 11 semesters covered by scholarship which will allow an opportunity for the student althlete to not only earn his/her Bachelor degree but also potentially a Masters, MBA, or for a very academically aggressive student athlete even a JD. Again, I’ve taught my kids to use football, rather than letting football use them!

Linemen may benefit from training table and lifting. QBs can learn schemes - WRs route running, DBs practice against the best.

But if I’m a running back with NFL aspirations - I’m avoiding contact until contact is necessary.

You really have to judge - do I have a legit shot to start as a freshman and turn pro after junior year. Then it makes sense.

Allow me to repeat football is PLAN B! If you’re fortunate enough to play in the NFL fantastic, but use Football don’t let Football use you!

Amen Brother!

And for everyone out there (especially all the folks I met at Minnesota last year)....NFL stands for “Not For Long”. Get the degree and get the max academics you can for as long as you can. That is the recommendation of the Voodoo. But alas no one really listens to me so do what you want;)
