He's just a crazy person with anger issues. Hard to find a rational purpose behind someone's actions like him.

He needs to be suspended the rest of the season. But I don’t even think that will help. He definitely has anger management issues and needs some counseling. But he is so unrepentant of his actions that I don’t think he would accept counseling.
