am I the only one thinking this is starting to turn more and more into an overblown creation of the media? At one point pretty much every NBA star was expected to move, but now it's looking more and more like only 2 or 3 guys will really be somewhere new.

Dirk - Stayin in Dallas
Paul Peirce - Staying in Boston
Joe Johnson - Staying in Atlanta
LeBron, Bosh and Wade are still uncertain, but alot of signs point to Wade staying in Miami.
Amare might get traded to New York.

The big stars are supposed to be free agents for the offseason. Everyone talks about them going to all these different teams and then they just resign with their team.

The more their name is in the paper and on Sportscenter, and the more that it looks like they'll leave, the higher the price that they can demand. Plus, it's absolutely all about the money, and the current teams can offer what no one else can - thatsixth year at a massive salary.

Amare in New York reuniting with D'Antoni will be interesting to watch. If they can find some good guard play, they could be on the right track. Wade seems to seriously be considering Chicago, and teamed with Rose, that would be an exciting backcourt. I think LeBron eventually stays in Cleveland. He is basically allowed to run the franchise, plus they can offer the most money.

I think Bosh is the key. I'm hoping that he winds up in Houston, but it'll be tough for him to turn down playing with Wade. Supposedly, though, he wants the sixth year and the Rockets have the best sign and trade package to swap. So we'll see...

well, in a damn long time. Just because they end up staying where they are doesn't make it any less important.

no way the Knicks are agreeing to a sign and trade so he's most likely gone, high and dry.

This year is special naturally because of LeBron James. The reason why is because it's so hard to win an NBA championship. Just look back over the last 30 years. Most teams have 1 thing in common... they almost all have a guy who is considered one of the best players of his era (Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Bird, Magic, Duncan, Olajuwon). Sure you have a few "teams" without that one star player that sneak in & win once or twice a decade (Detroit, 2008 Boston). But for the most part all championship teams are led by an all-time great player.

Which brings us to this offseason. Most peopleconsider James to be the best player for the next 10 years, or in other words the next Kobe, Jordan, Magic, Bird.Signing James does not guarantee a championship, but that team will havethe keycomponent to bea top contender for the next 10 years. Miss out on this chance, and it will be much more difficult to build a championship team - and you have almost no chance at building the next dynasty.

Everything else you're hearing is just filler. Everyone knew Dirk & Pierce would stay with their current teams. Johnson will likely have no impact (in terms of championship) regardless of where he signs. That leaves Wade, Bosh, and Stoudemire who are interesting only for the fact that whoever signs LeBron is also expected to sign one of these guys. Signing LeBron plus one of these guys almost guarantees you'll be a championship caliber team for the next 5 years.

that somebody is gonna get left out altogether.. the Knicks have Stoudemire in the fold.. Dwyane Wade is looking hard at the Bulls (his hometown and child custody issues).. either Chicago, Miami, New Jersey, or Cleveland is gonna be left out in the cold with nothing to show for the free agent frenzy (or at least nothing close to what they were hoping for)

LeBron, Wade, Amare, Bosh, Johnson - All Stars can't really drive their market value up any more than it is. I guess I was referring more to free agents in general.

There also is a much larger media spectacle this year due to the number of high profile free agents, which include some of the best players in the league. (of course.)
