The Terry Rozier stuff is pretty obvious and stupid. His career earnings are around $160 million. You think he could've just given the guy a few grand and called it a day instead of being "injured" so the guy could win $13k

I mean Chauncy Billups could have done the same thing.

Both are idiotic.

The allegations against Billups aren’t related to basketball. He’s involved in an illegal poker game
I saw that to. What's illegal about a poker game? I know gambling is illegal a lot of places but no one ever gets arrested much less tied into something with the FBI that makes headlines. Interesting.

Billups isn't basketball related. It's tied to an illegal poker game but again yes he could have easily flown to a state with legal gambling
Except if he's accrued big debt playing poker, they must assume he could be using his position to aid bettors. Might be hard to prove it but that's always the danger. Plus, mafia ties to the poker game I read.

They may have wanted to hit him for something else, but since they couldn't, they hit him up for something that nobody else gets charged for.

Or he may have been involved in an organized commercial poker games with a house cut, which are treated differently than friendly games, even if they aren't often caught.

Slight Thread Hi-jack: Which athlete or coach, if he was busted in a gambling ring, would be the most surprising or shocking?

Travis Kelce would get the most headlines probably. But I'd be more shocked if it was Lebron. He is notoriously tight with money.

Tied to mafia though. Likely more than just playing a little poker. Even if separate from basketball, you can't have players and coaches associated with mafia.

Silver is going to have his hands full managing what's happening.

Jeff Hornacek, don't know why but he's the first person that popped in my head

Add former Cleveland player and assistant coach Damon Jones…

He allegedly provided inside info to co-defendants who used it to place bets…

They do when it runs to the Tony Soprano level of illegal poker games that are tied in with other illegal activities. Not saying that's what this is, just saying. Like every now and then someone in Mississippi gets arrested for moonshine, and we are all like, "What? Is it 1935?" Why not just go to the liquor store? You don't see it often, but you do see it.

There have been credible rumors for years about high stakes illegal poker games in several major cities (especially NYC, L.A. Miami) with high-end escorts & drugs, so it isn't a reach to think the mafia in involved.

sports gambling is basically what has built sports. Boxing, horse racing, baseball, hockey, football and I figure all the major sports have had issues.

I had a friend whose father was a minor league hockey coach. Someone said they ended up down here in MS due to him turning states evidence on some people.

I do know my friend based his business out of Vegas but lived here for a long time. I never asked him if it was true. But no names and rumors are encouraged.

It's the scale of it. You have to be licensed to run gambling operations. I doubt it was just a few buddies having a poker night.

Jerry Jones. We find out he has been betting against the boys for years. Setting them up for failure so he wins his bet.***

The games were mafia set ups to fleece big fish. Most of the players were in on it. Read what the FBI release on it says. These weren't simple poker games, or even high stakes illegal games. They were organized plots to steal big money without the victim even knowing it was being stolen.

I have been saying for years that the TORONTO RANGERS are a dirty organization. I am glad to see they are finally being investigated! Time to pull down the curtain and expose that corrupt organization to the LIGHT OF JUSTICE!

There is a named defendant from Mississippi named Marves Fairley. Appears to be from Prentiss but I’m not 100% sure on that. Also an unnamed co-conspirator from Louisiana. Anyone know of either one? Marves has an instagram where he spends time with Boosie Badazz. That could be the unnamed one from Louisiana.
