I have officiated a lot of games, so I watch the officials more than most folks do. (talking about college here). I find the officiating at the college level......disturbing! The refs have way too much influence on the outcome of the game. They make ridiculous calls on fouls while missing obvious ones. I don't think anyone knows what "traveling" is anymore, and have we forgotten the 3-second zone completely? Frankly, I prefer the old "no blood, no foul" rule for both teams.

Nothing to do with the deplorable UK situation, but I just watched about 10 minutes of Heat and Bucks, and I just can’t believe they pay these guys what they do. Run up and down the court and launch. Rinse. Repeat. I’m 54 and give me a month or two to get in shape where I can jog up and down the floor >5 times consecutively without collapsing, and I’ll bet I can make as many as they do. Hell, I might even be able to win a few games.

Defense is 100% non existent. I’ll bet I could grab several rebounds as well. I hadn’t watched in a great while, but wow.
I think Milwaukee made about 75 3s in the first half. Guess why? Yep. That’s it.

I had to edit this in because I forgot to mention something. The announcers are even worse than the product on the floor.
You’d have no chance in hell to do anything in an NBA game 😂

No one is stopping you from getting and shape showing all those scrubs how basketball is played. I am sure you could lock Giannis down and teach him a thing or two about a textbook defensive stance, right?

I mean, I’m sure it pays more than your current job. Go for it.

I like how the 60 year old Viagra segment of this debate thinks "good" basketball is clubbing people over the head and dirty plays.

"You want to know good basketball *coughs*.. well, back in my day.. *wheezes*.. Bill Lambier would do a completely non-basketball clothesline move to a player on the way to the hoop.. now that's REAL basketball sonny!"

But they like this brand of basketball in China. And that’s all that matters (right LeBron?).

NBA is infinitely better than the college game right now. It’s like watching a different sport. NBA allows athletes to thrive, college game is all about mitigating athleticism. And what it comes down to is the officiating. It’s abysmal in college, but adequate in the league. Refs stay out of the way and let these guys hoop.

Its not just China.. its everywhere.. its Australia, Lithuania, Argentina.. the fact is the NBA is as big as its ever been. Its probably second, globally, only to soccer. There's no amount of rating spin and stroking of the old days to change that.

Lets remember that while the Chinese government is complete ****, there ARE still billions of citizens there. And they absolutely love guys like Yao Ming, Marbury, Jimmer, etc. They can't get enough of American basketball players.

I'd get my *** whooped in the NBA regardless of era, but I'll admit I liked it growing up more than I like it now. Never saw the likes of Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, David Robinson, Stockton/Malone, Mourning and Gary Payton trying to team up with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in Chicago like you see with most of these stars/superstar players now outside of maybe Lillard.

And yes, I know Malone and Payton both technically joined forces with better teams, but that came at the tail end of their careers.

For me, analytics are killing my enjoyment of sports. In baseball it makes sense to shift on defense, rarely steal, and launch home runs to score, but three true outcomes baseball makes for a really, really boring game. For the NBA, it make analytical sense to jack 3's because a 3 is better than 2. However, running down the court and launching within 10 or so seconds isn't entertaining to me either.

Would love to see LeBron play against the Detroit Bad Boys. He couldn't play for crying every time Laimbeer & Mahorn hammered him every time he tried to drive. You think he cries a bunch today ? He would probably set out every game against the bad boys for, you know for rest.
you mean like those physical 2006-2007 piston teams?
