I've permanently moved on for life, I used to get SLAM Magazine, NBA League Pass, seasonal basketball magazines, I'm truly done. I check the box scores to see how former UK players did, though I've even lost interest in that as well lately.

Just doesn't seem like a smart business decision. Who is going to become an NBA fan because they don't play the National Anthem? Conversely, how many people are going to stop watching?

The league already backtracked on the woke jerseys. You'd think Cuban would be a little smarter than this.

And what a ***** move to not even comment on it. At least make your stance Cuban.

I saw an interview with Cuban a few days ago where he bitched out Zach Lowes comments on Luka. Told him to "eff off" on TV. Real nice example to set for someone so woke.

Completely unrelated but not really concerned: I thought he looked a little sick in that interview.

Another nail in the NBA coffin. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say.

How does a guy like Cuban who became a billionaire from humble beginnings come to dislike America so much and believe the BS narrative of how America is a awful country. Such an awful country that millions are trying to immigrate here. I used to respect Cuban as a shrewd businessman but F him and the NBA.

Well you can't kneel if the anthem is not played at all.
Maybe he just wanted to get rid of all the controversy around the anthem and knew he was in a no win situation with the players
Think about it there would not have been kneeling by the UK players in Gainesville if the anthem had been cancelled at the last minute.
Personally I don't agree with any of this but maybe that's why Cuban didn't want to comment.
The kneeling in Gainesville was probably the single biggest disconnect between players and fans in the history of U K basketball.
Florida would have done BBN a favor if they decided to skip the anthem.

I've never understood the need to play the national anthem prior to a game in the USA, between two american teams. What's the point?

Love and celebration of country?

What exactly is the point of basketball? What’s the point of team names? Of mascots?

The reality is, there’s not much point in nearly anything in life, truthfully. But if we start dismissing one of the two main things that bind us, love of country, then we may as well not have a country.

Most countries play there's at their games as a point of respect I guess. Our current disrespect for the NA and Flag only shows the movement toward the New World Order. When that happens, people will long for the past.

The most ridiculous thing about all of this is that viewership for the NBA and the NFL is way down because of all of this anti American sentiment. Now, you will read all of these reasons from many sites and sports outlets that it is because the pandemic and other reasons but, that makes no sense because, there are more outlets streaming the games and more people at home to watch them. I read one article that said the pandemic cut down on the super bowl parties so, it cut down the viewership. What? How stupid is that.

The woke media does not want to believe what's right in front of their faces these days. Their reality does not exist past their TV stations or shows.

I’ll never attend any type of event ever if they don’t play the anthem before it starts

Agreed. I've literally walked out of two weddings and my grandpa's funeral in disgust when the anthem wasn't played. It has cost me some dear friends and family members--it has absolutely cut me deep to my core that those relationships are forever damaged and there's a coldness inside I fear I'll never truly shake, but no one ever questions my patriotism now. And that's all that really matters.

Weddings? Who plays the national anthem at their wedding?

True patriots. I think a better question is why wouldn't you play the national anthem at a wedding? What better time to honor this great country and all those that came before on a day when two individuals have decided to come together and form a holy, sacred union for the rest of their lives? What better way than to give thanks and appreciation for all those who sacrificed so that this beautiful and sacred moment can take place, you see where I'm coming from? Makes perfect sense to me.

My cousin and her side of the family haven't talked to me since her wedding a couple of years ago when the Pastor asked if anyone had any objections and I stood up to correctly shame them for not playing the national anthem and not having any U.S. flags present at the ceremony--right before I stormed out of there. I could care less what they think of me now as long as they know that I'm a true patriot who loves his country.

Seeing people upset about the anthem not being sung in one thread and then advocating for secession in others is an interesting take on things.

Perhaps they’re advocating to take the country with them when they go. The traditions, symbols, and above all the Constitution.

Not a stretch, since those who would stay despise those things anyway.

Virtue signalling. Just like all the people in this thread signalling their virtuous outrage over nothing.

False. We have no national church. The secular traditions that have developed in our country such as the anthem and the pledge are among the very few things that have the capacity to unite.

If you have stood in a packed stadium and heard thousands sing in unison, you would never confuse it with “virtue signaling”.

I’m fine with not playing the national anthem before games.

A school in the same conference as two schools I used to work at has never played the national anthem before games and no one has ever given a damn about it not being played.

There’s no need to be playing the anthem before games. We don’t regularly do it at the start of basically any other social event like parties, dinners, concerts, movies, etc. If it wasn’t for working a few games a week at a local college, I could go for years with never having heard the national anthem played before any event I attended.

The NFL didn’t even do it until the armed forces started paying them to do it.

It’s fine if you like it or want it played before, but it isn’t necessary.

It’s sad to see the people who act like hatred of America is no big deal cause “it’s just a basketball game, what does that have to do with the anthem?”

It’s not a coincidence that the industries with the biggest ties to China (NBA and Hollywood) are the biggest loudspeakers for this Marxist garbage. While communist China continues its ascendency as a world power, we are being ripped apart to the point where half the country is ashamed of itself. We cannot defeat communism or our adversaries when we are so convinced that we in fact are the bad ones.

Brilliant strategy by China. Again, the sad part is to see so many Americans buy into it. Those with the most to lose are doing the least to fight it.

You make a very good observation - along with being jingoistic, American obsession with patriotic ritual also borders on idolatry. Ironic, for such a "Christian nation."
