NBA playoff format change?

That would be a welcome change in my book. The grizzlies could be the 10th or 11th best team in the league and still miss the playoffs.
Conferences are outdated. Keep the divisions, but do away with conferences. Each division winner gets in and then there are wild cards.

Why keep divisions and award divisional winners with a spot? Why not just go to a true 16 best teams? It seems arbitrary to call for conferences to dissolve, but to keep divisions.
4 best East teams.
4 best West teams.
8 remaining teams with the best records.
...and if you really wanna punch it with a little hot sauce, go to the DLeague playoffs format where the top seed gets to pick who they play, then the 2nd place team, etc etc. Reward regular season success.
