I'm done with the NBA. Thanks Lebron and Adam Silver for destroying your league.
It'll do exactly as much to stop racism as taking Rupp's name off of the basketball arena, which is to say, 'nothing'.
For a bunch of posters who "don't care about the NBA," some of you are getting really worked up about it. If you don't care, why should it matter if the players didn't play yesterday? And saying "I would get fired if I didn't go to my job" is a little different. You are a much more easily replaced than world-class athletes. Lots of unions stage walkouts/strikes to make change (I realize this is slightly different, as it isn't the NBA work condition that needs to change). Also a bunch of white people complaining about black athletes standing up for something they believe in is a little tone-deaf.
That being said, I think resuming is the right thing. Ending the season would have been worse, as their platform to discuss these issues would have been gone (besides Twitter). They wouldn't have the games, their jerseys, BLM on the floor, postgame interviews, etc. It would have been counterproductive to what they want.
It would also have financially impacted the league and the players. If they want to make a difference, not only use their platform, but take the money they are going to make in the playoffs and put it to use, something that can really make a change. They were ready to give that money up by not playing, so it only makes sense to donate it to the cause.

Their “protest” doesn’t sway me to their side as a fan. It just makes me move on and look for something else to get into. That is coming from a diehard basketball fan. I just don’t have any interest in the playoffs at this point because I watch sports to escape ******** politics

The NBA is such a joke. Just become a social justice league at this point. What did they really hope to accomplish from a boycott, let alone a one day boycott? Fans watch basketball for entertainment, and currently for a distraction. All they really accomplished was flipping the bird to millions of fans and inflating their egos.
Doc Rivers says this country doesn't love us. Sure Doc. You and your family have made millions in this country. If this country doesn't love you then you have a great opportunity to leave. Move to Cuba. I am sure they will show you plenty of love.

I would love it if all pro sports, especially the NBA, would go on permanent boycott.
Just to look at this " well we did something" type of thing .. Turning arenas into voting booths ? How about we turn corn silo's into booths in Mid America ? Dont want those farmers driving to far .. the point on voting ? in 2020 if you want to vote its BEYOND easy .. its effortless , and turning arenas into voting booths sounds like a suggestion from Nancy Pelosi. When shes drunker than usual.
I'm a casual NBA fan. I keep an eye on our guys, hometown Pacers, an occasional big game and game seven of the Finals. I can say, with honesty, the NBA (and ESPN) have lost me for the foreseeable future. They are no longer sports entertainment.

It Happened because Adolf Hitler and his propaganda machine claimed that Sudeten Germans living in the region of Czechoslovakia were being oppressed. Was this happening? No. It was purely propaganda used as a means to attack.
These tactics have been used before, we just don’t know what to look for.
Many Black Americans begin life disadvantaged. There are many reasons for this, but it’s not a bumper sticker political slogan like many whites are using it for today.
If you’re going to use victimization as a means to further your political ambitions, you might as well put a gun to Black kid’s heads and pull it. There’s nothing that will be gained by using victimization as a means to further impoverished Black communities. And I think you are not only racist, but a bad person underneath it all if by now you’re not seeing the carnage created by peddling in it.
Here’s how you empower real change.
1. Speak out agaisnt rich people and athletes that encourage real oppression world wide. They are elites, their color doesn’t matter. They make profits off of modern day slavery. Until they give that up, they should be labeled the evil that they are. Lebron doesn’t want you to know that most of the issues we’re facing are not racial, but one of socioeconomics. He’s leading you down a path where guys like him own the world, and everyone else is flatlined. Stop falling for it becuase you think it helps a political ideology.
2. Start taking the playbook of guys like Dr. Eric Thomas, not Lebron James, Al Sharpton, or white grievance industry leftist. This is a black man that was abandoned by his father, and had very little upbringing. He was poor, homeless, and eating out of trash cans. Fast forward 20 years, he’s a famous speaker who has a PhD. Why are we listening to guys like Lebron James (privileged elite class who uses child labor to make profits) instead of guys like Eric Thomas. I’ll tell you why, it’s not politically expedient.
Here’s a quote from a Black man who completely changed his life and doesn’t feel oppressed:
“You owe it to yourself, I didn’t get here making excuses. what changed? I CHANGED. And I stopped being a VICTIM. I stopped saying I’ve got to wait for good things to happen to me, and I’ve got to work. I’ve got to grind. I’ve got to fight. I’ve got to do everything in my power, every single day, to be a victor and NOT a victim. You need to look at yourself in the mirror and say “what did you NOT do”.
Eric Thomas did not sell dope, fight police, and peddle in victim hood. He’s the opposite of the leftist platform teaching victimization. He made a choice to get educated and work to improve his life and he did. And he didn’t dribble a basketball or sell poison, he made real change.
Until the racial politics goes away,many black communities will continue to go down. Just remember that when we’re still chasing ghost in 20 years with no results.

I’m fine with turnin corn silos into voting booths. The more the merrier. You are aware there are voter suppression tactics that have been widely implemented since the voter rights act was shot down in 2013 right?
Oh look, the NBA is back now. Too late. I was only a casual fan anyway. I did watch some games, even one or two in the bubble. But, I'm officially done now! The NBA can suck it! I used to follow ex-UK players a little, won't be doing that anymore. I won't be rooting against them necessarily, I just won't be following them at all. Too bad too, I kind of liked AD and some of the other guys.
This is a large part of the reason it is so difficult to address the real underlying issue(s). Yes there is a problem that needs to be addressed but until people will put aside their biases and hatred and deal with honest facts there is no way the issue(s) will get addressed. Instead all the energy is spent addressing inaccuracies. I really think this is intentional by leaders of the left to sow the seeds of racial discourse.
This man was not trying to break up a fight. This man had an arrest warrant out on him. The police were called because a woman's boyfriend was on site and was not supposed to be there (don't know if Jacob Blake was the boyfriend), the man resisted arrest, was hit with a taser and kept going, reached into his car to grab something and a knife was found in his car.
This man bears a majority of the responsibility for what unfolded. It is easy to sit here and say that cop should have done this and he should have done that. To those that are so confident they would have been able to subdue him without shooting him, I say then we need more of you on the police force who put their personal safety aside in all situations for the benefit of a suspect behaving improperly.
If you are not willing to do this why not?

Unlike Lebron, I care about worldwide oppression. I care about the damage he’s causing black youth in America. I care about the 7 year old getting paid nothing to make his shoes.

I'm demanding an apology from LeBron. I still don't care about the league anymore, but I'm demanding an apology from him. Mainly because I'm petty and the en vogue thing to do now is demand apologies and then reject them. I want that opportunity.
To all the 'real' people that are affected by what is going on (ie. the non-rioters, non-looters, non-arsonists, non-anarchists), I genuinely feel for. The peaceful protesters. I want things to be better for them. All these other clowns can take a long walk off a short pier.
Id venture to say a majority of people, predominantly african american, are the quickest ones to view race in situations, especially in the current climate. Just my opinion in that the race relations, one perpetuated and brought forefront by a movement such as BLM, make people see any negative white/black interaction as racially motived because of the presence of systemic racism, like its trickled down into the white masses (which just really isnt the case. Yes there are racists sprinkled around everywhere, but its almost as if the movement wants you to believe almost everything negative is racism).
I do believe in systemic racism, i think anyone who disagrees has there head buried in the sand, but i dont think the movement isnt guided entirely properly. You can want to reform, overhaul or dismantle particular systems that you believe suppress the AA community and POC in general, but they should also emphasize looking within black communities and the traditional family as a contributing factor for some of the issues placed on the black community.
Both sides need to change. Both sides need introspection. The problem is politics play a major part, long lasting change will take time (which no one wants to hear) and also just IMO which anyone is free to disagree with, the left push this false agenda of ‘everything is racially motivated’ more than anyone to stir things for their own political gain.
there are blind supporters though, many people dont care to even read facts on some of these murders that occurred months ago. They see a story on twitter or facebook and thats all the knowledge they care to obtain without staying educated and up to date or really educated on facts to begin with. There is a large group that is entirely reactive without trying to be proactive.

How about another fact! Even if what you said is true, there was no reason to shoot an unarmed man in the back 7 times in front of his kids. In that same city a 17 year of white male shot multiple people with an AR15 and lived to talk about it. It was reported that when the cops rushed to the scene they ran past the armed white male because they were looking for another black man to shoot.
