Thanks for sharing the segment. I'm sure most all on this board know the history. Great way to keep the younger generation informed.
Not a negative. It's just the story is apochryphal, i.e., fictitious.
Actually I remember in the late '60's USC was the 'it' team. They had a chant 'we are..SC" which was much faster than the current , 'we are.........Penn State' Every little HS team had an adoption of it. We are SC (Sait Clair) we are SH (Schuylkill Haven) etc. So I think by the time the '70's rolled around maybe PSU adapted it as well. I know Marshall didnt have it until at least the '90's.
It sounds so good that people want it to be true, so it continues to spread. As the article you cited notes, what the 47-48 team did was awesome, and that stands alone. But we don't have to pretend it's also the origin of the We Are chant.
And here I thought you were going to provide the origin of the “We Suck” chant you so often use.
