Seeding 1 32 makes sense in 8A because of geography. Works in 7A because the St. Louis area schools are a clump willing to travel rather than play each other again. But maybe in the smaller schools some sort of hybrid might be in order...
4A South this year, for example. If anybody is worried about attendance, first round trips for Herrin to Pontiac and Prairie Central to Murphysboro will not help attendance...They are the 6-11 and 5-12 games. Assuming they don't object to conference rematches first round, why don't they swap? 4A South has four far northern schools - 3 Mac, 5 Pontiac, 11 PC and 16 IVC...What if you seed 1-16 in the smaller classes, and the geography matches the closest first round matchup (combining geography & seed)? Mac - IVC might be a little more of a palatable blowout. Murphysboro's trip to Kankakee this weekend will be about 5 hours one way on a bus...to likely get running clocked, while Pontiac gets the honor of likely being running clocked by Rochester. Sure, the Kankakee River is a bit bigger than the Big Muddy, but Murphysboro isn't going to see much but a lot of harvested corn & bean fields on the trip to a likely blowout...
