Badke from Brother Rice has to be a top 3 candidate

He's done a great job so far but has to win a few playoff teams with this group first.
This group of seniors has gone undefeated with every coach it has ever played for. A quarter or semis appearance or bust.

Didn't they go 2-7 last year?

Correct He's done an excellent job so far this year.

This group has a ton of talent which is why edgy had them ranked pre-season.
Which is why expectations of quarter or semis are now just.
Credit goes to Badke.

This group of seniors

Fresh year: 9-0 coach quaid
Soph year: 9-0 coach lyons
Jr: 2-7
Sr: 7-0 so far.

Underclassman records mean nothing but does show talent.

The real question is does Dave Lenti get the Asst Coach of the 80's 90's 00's & 10's award.

Every ex carmel alumni I have spoken with speaks very highly of him. I think everyone on this board can agree his side of the ball has been MC's strength the past 30+ years.

This year no different.

Someone send that man an award!

I agree with all the mentioned names, especially Badke even though I’m not a fan of him but credit given when due. But I do have to throw Jordan Lynch in there. He walked into a real s*** storm at MC after the Lenti situation was handled. It would be enourmous shoes to fill if he indeed did just retire, but to step in after he was replaced and deal with 119 years of pissed off Alumni and donors? He’s had the media in his face since he took over as well. Then he installs a new shotgun offense with players that were recruited to play the veer. This Varsity class also lost 3 players to Phillips before Lynch got to MC including one of the top ranked TE in the nation that is Alabama bound. All this and he is 6-1, with 8-1 looking like a real possibility in his first year. Great job Coach!

He’s received many accolades over the years and is in the IHSA Hall of Fame, but yes, if you told me I had to start over at MC and could only pick Frank or Dave to stay, I’m picking Dave 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

Lynch walked into a ton of talent even with 3 transfers. I use transfers loosely because a few of them were asked to leave.
I also completely disagree with it being a s**storm for Lynch, it was actually the opposite for him. For the school and alumni completely circus across the board but Lynch walked into pretty much a turnkey program.
Of course McC doesn't like Badke, we would he? Badke took away the easy recruiting that MC had on the southside

Wow, sorry about the tough guy remark, it was a real long week! You always got to be like this. I’m not a Badke, far from alone on those feelings, but I can admit he’s doing an outstanding job this year, still don’t like him. Yes Lynch inherited talent, but this senior class did lose 10 games in their first 3 years playing. Lynch has done a great job, period

It could be said that Lynch didn’t walk into a shitstorm, he created the shitstorm. He’s the one who accepted the job before Lenti knew or had been let go. And he was handled with kid gloves by the media. I’ve seen many Lynch interviews, not one of which has really pinned him down to explain how the change took place. Badke is coach of the year. Lynch can get one later on when he has his own players & has an undefeated season.

How about as rice fans we worry about our own team.

Not one thing MCcaraven said was a jab at Badke or Rice. He doesn't like him. Which is fine. I don't know the encounter or experience he had.

I also hear nothing but great things about Lynch.

Bottom line is Lynch is getting the job done.

Badke so far has done an excellent job and deserves consideration.

He will not be coach of the year until rice doesn't lay a playoff egg like against fremd or palatine.

I have confidence in him that he won't.

That was just my opinion. I gave Badke all his due credit. This post was to hear who you think should be Coach of the Year at this point, not to rip on who other think should be.

Please enlighten me, what's the beef
Why and what don't you like so much about badke
This board is for football, this is s personal reason outside of football between him and I that began years ago. It was my fault for saying I don’t like him, wrong place. I’m man enough to admit he’s doing s fine job this year and deserves much credit.

Coach of the year should be a decent ways down the priority list. It is an individual award and this game is about TEAMS. I bet the coaches are far more focused on the upcoming week 8 games, finishing up the regular season, and starting the playoff runs.

7-0 and 6-1 both great records and both going to start their playoff push.

In terms of COY- I would give the nod to BR coaching STAFF for flipping the script from a 2-7 season to a current 7-0 season. That is damn impressive.

Everyone on the site knows I will stick up for Badke every time its brought up. It's like you are surprised by my reaction or something?
As far as Q4, take a look at my history of posts, I'm not seeing the negative all time that you mention. I stick up for badke and rice.

You have that right, as do I. I’ll keep in mind your sensitivity towards negative remarks against him, obviously you guys are tight. I’ll respect that, won’t change my feelings but I’ll be mature enough to keep that in mind. Can we call this over and move on please?

I like Walters at GBE and Heldreth at Willowbrook, neither of those place are particularly easy to win at and both have really good teams this year.

Got to give Muhitch some love at WWS they had only won 6 games total the previous 3 years and weren’t picked to make the playoffs yet they are sitting at 6-1 with two winnable games left on the schedule.

I have ripped the Rice coaching staff as much if not more than anyone, not on a personal level but simply how they seemed to lose games and let teams stay with them becasue of poor coaching moves. The new guys coaching defense are the difference as well as health this year. Kudos to Brian for filling the slots they needed. The offense is doing enough to get through games which is what they need.

Now then....they look to have the pieces in place to make a run of some sort but as I have said time and again 8A is a whole different animal and they could be the smallest school in 8A. I'd have them favored to win 7A this year. I also believe the top 8 or 9 teams would win 7A this year. 8A teams have larger rosters and fewer players playing both ways during the season. Look no further than Marist/Naz the last two years. When playoffs roll around 8A teams will use guys both ways but in the lower classes two way players are much more common. I hope Rice does do well they have a nice class.

My coach of the year though is Rice Alum (I think) Matt Kelly

Dave Lenti to me is the best coach in the state of Illinois and I really believe it is not close. If he leaves after the season then there may be trouble a brewing on Dante.

Totally illogical and counter intuitive. Therefore, you get a BIG "Meh!"
