Just read a list of North Carolinas highest paid coaching salaries. It was pretty surprising in that Hoke County, a perrineal loser, is the highest paying job in NC High School football. Richmond was #3 on the list, #4 was Shelby High, and #5 was Scotland. The remainder of the top 20 was a bunch of schools that probably never even get much of a mention at all here. The Sandhills was well represented in the list but Im shocked at the payscale that no Raleigh, Charlotte, or Greensboro coaches made the list. Overall shocked at the seemingly unbalanced level of pay versus winning success on the list.

Im sorry I don't know how to post a link. But you can search for the article on Google under "highest paid HS football coaches in NC". Its very recent within the last two days. The Richmond job while 3rd on the list, is actually the highest paying coaching job without additional duties. The Hoke job must have additional duties on top of head coaching.

I think the title is really misleading when you're saying "Highest paid coaches" and then ranking them by their total salary. Coaching is a stipend. The salary and benefits come from their other responsibility and a lot of the people on that list are ADs as well.
These are public schools - they don't get to just throw money at people because they win football games. Now, are there booster clubs or boosters that are giving additional money to coaches? Yes, that definitely is happening at some places and much more at the places that are winning. But those aren't listed on W2s or public access.

Most experienced coaches with years of experience and service are lucky to make 5K a year as a supplement in many counties for football and other sports. Some of the smaller districts that are independent can pay more to a HC if the funds are there. I would assume those making over 100K are combined teaching, coaching, AD or other supplements. I would guess that 10K is a pretty big supplement for a coach in NC. Not many coaches are hired in NC just to coach football. I know Thomasville and Lexington can pay pretty good as solo city schools for all their coaching supplements, especially football and basketball.
The Richmond salary does not surprise me. Football coaches at Richmond have been paid like that for years. But they better keep winning. The native son included..
Wilbanks at Shelby is the AD too. He's also a nationally board certified teacher.
Who are these folks on here always complaining about salaries and losing coaches to other states?
These salaries are the very top of the spear. Most Head Coaches make nowhere near this. Most coaches get 11 month pay if they're lucky. Some places you have to beg for that even though you work 12 months per year and countless hours. Anyway, so much people don't know unless you're actually in it.
I heard some of those salaries were off from one coach that listed as one top ones

Another interesting thing about these coaches is that I think only Richard Bailey and Wilbanks has taken a team to the state championship game? Is that right?
