I was told yesterday by a prominent car dealership owner in Jackson, MS, that the NCAA is currently investigating 2 banks in the Delta that have been funnelling money from UM Alum via these banks to UM players. Said the investigation has been going on quietly for some time and they pretty much have enough evidenceto bust program... Any legs to this rumor?

Been discussed several times, but you did add a few details I haven't heard. We'll see...where did you get your info may I ask?

Don't want to use his name because he was questioned in the Investigation. My grandmother got in a wreck and they have always bought from this dealer for 30 years. So we went to look at new cars and this is when he told us.

I don't get on the board much. I figured it had been discussed but this was the first I had heard of it. Didn't know if anybody else had more info on it... I'll try to get more. Either way they are getting close to UM on multiple fronts.

I keed, I keed.

But seriously, I don't doubt we're cheating. That being said, if you don't think State cheats, you're being naive.

I'm not sure how much of this is sour grapes, as undeniably there are a few bunches, and how much is rooted in fact. I've heard this rumor for months, however, and nothing seems to have come from it. I'll eat crow if it is served, but color me skeptical.

The NCAA cannot investigate a freaking bank. The FDIC can investigate a bank. The FBI can investigate a bank. The NCAA? Not so much.

Once the investigation is over all you crystal ball gazing rebel idiots can go visit your fellow Alum and get a special bonus picture with Masoli, in the same visit to Parchman.... Make sure he wears his state issued orange.

This about the dumbest thing that I have ever heard. You are not cheating but we are just dumb to think that we are not. I guess since we somehow beat UM last year we just have to cheating right.

Are you off your lithium?

Seriously, in only 3 posts I've learned you're one of the homer dregs of Sixpack/Nafoom. Glad to know I can ignore your opinion from here on.

Even if something did happen, how is the NCAA supposed to get evidence from a bank? If the NCAA walked into my bank demanding to see privileged information, they would get laughed out of here.

How did they get Reggie Bush's bank account transactions? What about Renardo Sidney's? What do you think they are looking at from Florida's Pouncey? I guess they magically appear for the investigators.... Either that or they are looking through that same crystal ball that sits in Oxfart...

for their Gameplan program. They didn't get anywhere, but it was mighty interesting that the program completely changed their mission after the "investigation."

Don't be a dumbass. They can hold it over his head by threatening to deny him eligibility. They couldn't go to his bank and get the records themselves. What leverage do they have on a bank or a booster to make them hand over the records?

I have no idea about what's going on in the Delta, other than an OM alum being removed from his position at a bank for alleged "hanky panky", but that doesn't mean the NCAA isn't looking into things regarding specific players.

not the financial institution.

The NCAA simply requested the financial information from the student athlete, not the bank. And they denied eligibility until the information was obtained. The NCAA did not march into Sidney's bank and say "You are ordered to turn over records."

Here's the real deal scoop.

There is a small bank president in the Delta that is eat up with Ole Miss. He's a small fish but throws around some clout to be seen as a big fish at Ole Miss. Someone in the town with MSU ties finds out and gets excited and reports it. The NCAA asks Ole Miss what's up with this guy. It happens. Bobby Lowder literally used bailout money to pay Tuberville's buyout at Auburn, remember? You don't think Colonial Bank has ever had dealings with Auburn that other banks haven't?

There's a tire tycoon in Batesville with MSU ties that was reported over the recruitment of Derek Pegues. Did he have something to do with Pegues wearing maroon and white. Probably. Can the NCAA do anything about it? Not a thing.

Geez you black helicopter types are annoying.

The NCAA can't investigate a bank, but it can sure target a player and investigate whether the individual had any dealings with that particular bank.

Uh, no. The federal government is also pretty serious about privacy laws. No way in hell that the NCAA could get anything from a bank without the consent of the account holder.

out of the Carolinas over a weekend.

They (Colonial) was a HUGE bank in the Southeast.

A. They didn't get any bank account transactions from Reggie Bush. A lawsuit was filed against him by Michael Michaels for the amount of money he gave Reggie Bush while he was playing at USC under a verbal agreement that once he had graduated he would sign with his sprots marketing firm. When Reggie signed with a different agent he field suit.<div>B. The NCAA actually never got proof that of the dollar amount given to Reggie because he settled out of court, had he gone to court the floodgates would have been opened.
<div>C. Pouncey and his family willingly handed over all of their credit card bills and banking transactions as proof that no money was received.</div><div>D. Dubmass</div><div>
