Schools like Little Rock are going to be depressing to coach at. Big time kids it appears will leave more often than not. Although we are on opposite side of the coin of the portal in wrestling…..:)
They need to get out of the PAC. There's literally no reason they shouldn't be in the BigXII. More Revenue for home duals and you may find a couple guys (The Hatcher family) who may be willing to kick in some cheddar for an AA wrestler.

Kick out Utah Valley or just add UALR and keep it moving...

At this juncture, we should look to over recruit in the portal for the following weights:

1. 133
2. 149 (Assume CS is the guy)
3. 157
4. 165
5. 174
6. 184
7. 197 (I assume Merrill is the guy here)
8. HWT (Just not a Doucet fan unless Hendrickson really helped him)

I think what we have Currently...

125 - Spratley
141 - Travis
149 - Swinderski
165 - Lockett
197 - Merrill

Sakamoto - 133?
McComas - 133?
Hughes - 133?
Robideau - 157?
Vega - Redshirt
Thompson - 174 maybe?

IDK who else really on the roster that's ready. Need to have a stacked back half though for sure.

Not speculating anything but the one to likely keep an eye on is Zack Ryder. 2x U17 Bronze, just won U20 Silver. Went undefeated as a redshirt beating DJ Parker.

I don't think Welsh will butt heads with Haines, he only has one more year anyways.

Ryder is from NY and was a coach KD kid. However, he greyshirted and spent his HS senior year in State College. There he trained with .... David Taylor.

Not to give anyone false hope but there are a couple Iowa board guys saying they think he ends up here. I’m gonna assume PSU until I see otherwise tho.

Who? Welsh?

Wasnt there a rumor that Rocco Welsh contacted PSU as soon as NCAAs were over? And PSU been trying to get him over from March.

Edit: Feldman was the one rumored to be contacted PSU as soon as NCCAs is done. Welsh is just a good old poaching.

Next year or through 2030? 😁
We were never going to challenge next year but it does not look good for us for the next 2 or 3 years unless really big things happen such as bad for Penn St. or really good for us. Potential finalists next year for them are: 125 Lilledahl soph, 133 Ono fr., 141 Blaze fr., 149 Van Ness jun., 157 Kasak jun., 165 Mesenbrink jun., 174 Haines sen., 184 Welsh soph., 197 Barr soph.. Maybe I am exaggerating this concern, because that is only 9 wrestlers there who have a good chance at being finalists next year. 5 of them are freshmen or sophomores. Plus you have Duke, James, Ryder, Sealy and Mirasola's, Hinkel, Drumond and Cunningham, all freshmen. On the Penn. St board the message is David Taylor going to us has rejuvenated Cael and he has picked up his game. We have been doing very good but the NCAA finals being a dual between us and Penn. St is not good for wrestling.

Rocco is good, no doubt, amazing defense even. But his offense against elite competition is really limited. I would like a hammer who can keep scoring. Am I crazy for thinking this way? Feels like Rocco is just like Levi.

Gonna do some wishful thinking/math here. Levi Haines is a DT guy. DT even said he’s “like a little brother” to him in his post-NCAA’s interview. Rocco Welsh was a finalist at 174 as a freshman and that might still be his ideal weight.

What if Haines has told Cael he’s exiting (possibly to train with a “big brother”?) which necessitated them going big game hunting?

That gives you Lockett at 165 as a freshman with some insanely good training partners at that weight. Sophomore year he bumps to 174 and you have Robideau & Routledge for 157 & 165 after a redshirt year.

Just something to ponder.

I had the same thought when I saw that interview, but I think it is wishful thinking. To me, if Levi were going to do that, he would already be in the portal.

I would optimistically counter that with saying I would’ve expected Welsh in the portal on Sunday, if not earlier, but it wasn’t announced until today. But I’m just speculating because what else can we Be expected to now that the season is over and we’re in a lull?

What PSU is doing is not good for college wrestling. And if it continues for more than a couple of years viewership will go way down. People are tired of PSU winning every year. There is no competition and no hope for anyone and it's only getting worse with the portal. Money is being spent like crazy to try and catch up but they just keep distancing themselves. Cael and his ego will ruin the sport that birthed him.

I am not seeing us win that dual for a while at this time.
