Well if we can tamper and have money, that Valencia kid at Stanford looked like a pretty good hand, to me!

One other thing, I haven’t watched Penn St wrestle except if they were wrestling our guys. I will say this much, the Mesenbrink kid is a complete and utter animal! I don’t know much, but I don’t know how you beat that cat! Also, I know it’s not possible but I would LOVE if Jax could pull to 125# and kick the ever living shiiittt out of that Lilledahl kid!! Speaking of portal guys, does anyone have info as to how tha guys did that Portaled out of OSU did; i.e. Young, Travis....

I know the info is out there to be gleaned but I need to get some work done around the house and I haven't done much since last wednesday and I was hoping that someone has already done the leg work.

Travis didn't qualify for the tournament. Think Carter lost in the blood round (but could be wrong).

Travis didn’t qualify. He medical forfeited from B12s.

Carter went 2-2. Lost in quarters to 20 seed Lamer and then to 15 seed Block.

Ok, so between 125 and 157 I'd say we are as good as anyone in the country next year, regardless where the available guys end up wrestling. Honestly I see at least 65-90 points from those weights. Now the question is can we find another 65-80 in the upper weights?

165- I'm going to go out on a limb and say that barring an injury, Dee out performs the 1.5 points he picked up this year. Simply wrestling to seed would have resulted in another 10 points most likely. I'm going to predict a major bounce back next year for him. That's assuming he stays at 165 but we have 7 months to wonder about that.

174 - Personally I really like AF and think he improved as the year went on and he was one second, maybe two away from having a shot at AA. I see him improving as well but short of a major level jump I think 8.5-10 points his his projected point total next year.

184 - Let's run this thing back with a new shoulder and see what happens. Ryder showed guts in fighting his was to AA status, this weight class is loaded so his 8.5 points he got this year may be about what he gets next year.

197 - Predicting another finals for Cody might be a stretch but I really don't put anything beyond a possibility for him, over the last two years he's held his own as well as anyone against the past two NC's at this weight, Buchannan and Barr. So 13-18 points is 100% doable.

Hwt - This is really the only weight that I'd like to see us try to get a one year gap filler for, I love D. Ross but I'd really like to see an upper weight guy get time in the gym to add some weight. Ross is more than capable of having early success but unless my memory is wrong, there hasn't been a FR win it all before, I think one runner up just going off memory. I think Gable only finished 3rd. I'd love to see a N. Feldman from Ohio State come in for a year, now I have no clue if he's looking to explore the portal or not but I can see a ton of Dean H vibes of not quite having the success where he's at and wanting to try something new.

So this year those upper weights scored about 45.5 team points, with two major holes at 165, 174. So I think 150 team points are out there for us but I don't know if that will be enough next year to take the crown because I see PSU hitting 170 points again next year as well.

On paper, heavy really clears out. I wonder how much that factors in with what to do with Ross. I agree I would love a RS year but there is a chance he could step in right away and be one of the top guys. The only AAs who could be back next year are Kueter, AJ and Carroll.

Feldman too tho he hasn’t placed since his freshman year.

We dont need ANYONE from 157 down. Spoke with two guys from FT Dodge Iowa on the plane ride to Chicago coming home. They both said Ross is around 235. Get 5 more pounds on him and he's ready. Even at 235 he's most likely top 3 after a year in the room. Get him up to 245- plus he's a natty champ.

Will be interesting to see what we do from 165-184 for sure. Redshirts, health will play a major part.

I see Ryder most likely taking a redshirt.
Shoulders take a long, long time to heal. They are one of the weaker joints in the body when you look at what they have to deal with abuse wise.

I hurt mine and it didn’t need surgery. It took a year to feel even close to normal again. Working in healthcare it’s one of the longest times to heal post op.

Didn’t Dustin Plott have to have the same surgery on his shoulder as Ryder will? Plott didn’t have to redshirt. I know there may be varying degrees of injury between the two but if I remember right Plott made the finals the next season. I just don’t see Ryder wanting to redshirt unless he has to. That would be wrestling 1 season over a 3 year period.

Yeah it would be major medical ethics violations for anyone on this board to broadcast details about guys getting "the same surgery". And highly unlikely to be known at this point even by Zach's surgeon.

Obviously I’m not a doctor or expert. I was just referencing Plotts injury a few years back. As I said, there are probably varying degrees of the injury. My point was it may not be a given that Ryder had to take a medical next year.

He was an animal except for his matches with David Carr. Granted, D. Carr is an incredible wrestler and maybe the last collegiate wrestler to beat MM.

Exactly. For ol Trav here to say he would be an unquestioned starter over an overall #1 in Dee or even our other overall top 15 guys is crazy. I like the kid and he can score in bunches but just like we’ve seen with Dee EARLY in his career, you just don’t know what you are getting. Also, we can all agree he had a terrible tournament, but LOTS of eventual top 5 guys had bad first tournaments.
A winner wins, and when a winner loses, he takes it very personal. I have a feeling next year, he will be a killer.

I don't think we need to tamper. We have good options at 141 (Jax/Tagen/Raney) and 133 (Raney/Ronnie). Next season, our aim should be increasing our bonus wins at lower weights.

Improvement at 165/174/184(we got lucky points here)
I think Ryder will have a great year next year. He finished 8th with a very bum shoulder. He had a bum shoulder all season, which explains a lot

I completely agree. We do need a little more depth at the upper weights but 1 yr more for most of those guys, I believe will pay dividends.

If that championship match had a minute extra left in it, I think MM wins it. He was all over Carr and coming back.
I watched that match and I think David Carr was in trouble and Mesenbrink had broken him. I am glad there wasn't extra time and Carr was the national Champ and was really glad that Carr got the World team spot. But in that match, I thought if the match was 10 seconds longer Carr would have been taken down and lost. Obviously, Carr learned from that win and was ready for the tornado that Mesenbrink brings going for the World Team.

Another poster indicated that White can make 184 which I think is great news. Zack is a small 184 and he would be better at 174. Although I think White needs a redshirt year, but who knows maybe he doesn't. He is only rated 55 in the class of 2026 but is rated number 1 at 190. The class of 2026 rating was done in December of 2025 and so did not include his Iron Man results where he beat 3 guys in the top 10 at 190. So he will go much higher when they next rerank the 2026 class. Also with that December rankings of the 2026 class Jax was ranked 1st, Dreshaun 4th, Jordyn 5th, Jayden 6th, and Rocklin 11th.

I think he lands at Iowa or Iowa State. He’s not necessarily needed at OSU or PSU. Not sure where he fits.

Great wrestler but not sure on who actually needs him. 133 is loaded if everyone stays at the weight.
I agree I think he ends up at Iowa or Ohio State.

Iowa would make some sense as he could replace Ayala. If he went up, I could see him replacing Hardy at Nebraska. Wonder if someone like Michigan would pay up to land him.
