Hell, I was perfectly happy with the BCS. I knew the moment they went to a 4 team playoff that it would just be the beginning and people would continue to demand more and more. If they go to 8 teams, it won't be long until everyone is demanding 16. College football simply isn't set up to deal with this many games and the only way you could enact such a change is by screwing up the regular season. For some reason, people just have this tendency to constantly dick around with things to "improve them" until they manage to completely destroy them. NASCAR is a perfect example. Why can we never leave good enough alone?

Except every other division of college football has a 16 team playoff..............

Someone explain to me why a team like Western Michigan should be guaranteed a playoff spot and an 8 team playoff? That baffles me. They are clearly not one of the best eight teams in America. Everyone should be held to the same standards. Being one of the top eight teams.

Every other division has no relation to big time Div I football, it is a unique sport, supremely popular . . . and yet we seem to be going out of our way to make more and more like any other sport, which is not nearly as popular. Don't get it . . . at all.

Imo, if it is to go to an 8 team playoff, the 5 conference commissioners from the non Power 5 schools will only agree to it if one of their schools is represented.

Am I the only one who gives a rats *** what they think my friend? Just ignore them and do it anyways. The Power 5 is all that matters.

I mean if we want to give Bama bye week game and watch them beat WMU by 40-50...I guess let's do it. Granted some years the games would b e more competitive but not this year.

The playoff will grow, it is inevitable, the hang up is really the 12 year contract. If the NCAA and all the conferences, media shot callers, sponsors could all get together and figure out a new deal tonight, we'd have at least an 8 team play off tomorrow.

There are just too many teams with legit claims left out every year.

There is a step or two that is being skipped. The NCAA is essentially by passing most of the play offs and giving the best four teams a pass to the semi finals. Would that be acceptable in any other sport?

How about the NFL coming out and saying "well we're at the end of the season, it's pretty clear who the best teams are so were going to fast forward a bit...Dallas, New England, Seattle, and Oakland will be playing for the title..."

NBA " Well, guys it's been a fun year we are pleased to announce that it's been decided Golden State, LA Clippers, San Antonio, and Cleveland will play for it all"

No more March Madness, the 4 number 1 seeds will have it wrapped up in a week...Duke, UNC, Duke, UNC will battle it out...no Kentucky because SEC isn't tough enough...

You mention 16 games being too many, but 15 isn't?

I love the idea of an 8 team playoff. As others have mentioned, the champions from the Power 5 conferences, highest rated champion of the non Power 5 conferences and 2 at large. First round is played at home sites and the next two are at neutral sites like it is now. Here is how last year and this year would have played out:

2015

1) Clemson vs 8) Houston
4) Oklahoma vs 5) Iowa
2) Alabama vs 7) Ohio State
3) Michigan State vs 6) Stanford

2016

1) Alabama vs 8) Western Michigan
4) Washington vs 5) Penn State
2) Clemson vs 7) Oklahoma
3) Ohio State vs 6) Michigan

That is what I call a hell of an 8 team tournament.

This is a good idea.

I was fine with the 4 team playoff, but putting tOSU in when they didn't even win their division and omitting 2 P5 teams, one which beat tOSU head to head leaves a bad taste to me. If we are going to have a five P5 conferences then their champion deserves to be in the playoff over ANY team who didn't win their division. I would and did feel the same way about Bama back in the BCS era. But all of it is driven by money, so 8 team playoff is right around the corner. All P5 champions, the highest ranked non P5 team and 2 wildcards, with the exception of no conference can have more than 2 representives

Please get rid of the "Power Five." The playoff looks for the 4 best teams. Conference is irrelevant.

There's no need for expansion. Conference championship games are basically play in games IF the selection process places a premium on conference champs (which it should). Win your games, win your conference and go to the playoff..
There are 5 power conferences and 4 playoff spots so every year one conference will be left out.

Best four teams. Maybe eight. Scrap the whole P5 auto bid conversation.

I don't think 16 games is too much for college. That's the NFL regular season... Not counting exhibition or post-season. It also needs to be mentioned that only the BEST teams would be playing these extra games. Not everyone would be playing thIs many. Nor should they.

Isn't that the same organization that screwed up the horrific mess at the U so bad they couldn't even afford to take a look at the shenanigans at Transfer U?

Given the NCAA's unequal enforcement policies relating to NCAA Members, I'm automatically opposed to anything that the NCAA may have a voice in!!!

One thing you can be sure, money will be the deciding factor in the long run.

That is true, and usually the 4 best teams will come from those 5 conferences I don't think any of the 4 playoff teams this year would be too upset if they had drawn Western Michigan the first round of the playoffs, at least when it was announced.

There are 5 power conferences and 4 playoff spots so every year one conference will be left out.

I can do math. Odds of four let alone all 5 P5 undefeated conference champs are???? The. Your rankings pick the top 4 if that rate case happens. No matter where you cut the # off at the next 2-3-4 teams in the rankings will complain. Bubble watch in basketball ring a bell?

Not really sure what the answer to the ongoing college football championship dilemma is. I will say this though: conference championships mattered a few years ago when it was the only way to get Ohio State into the playoff, but now they don't because it would take Ohio State out of the playoff. The bias for that school is unbelievable.

Wouldn't shock me at all. If there's more money to be made the NCAA will definitely be onboard. Conference champions from the P5 conferences plus 3 at large teams.
I wouldn't trust anything Mark Emmett says due to his blatant playing of favorites. He would probably have UNCheat in it every year based on his failure to stanf up like a man and address the biggest scandal in the history of college athletics .

Hey I've got an idea, a 7 team playoff!! They could call it the Super Seven! You know, catchy like the Final Four? There's only one game that is 6 halves long, and all seven teams play it in a circular field shaped like a Chinese checkerboard! The middle is the common endzone! I must call the NCAA immediately.

Clearly? Has anyone beat them?
They can only play the teams on their schedule. They beat the two B1G teams they played...what will you say if they beat the third one they are about to play(Wisconsin)?

You might feel 150% certain that they aren't one of the 8 best but until someone beats them they should have the opportunity to prove you wrong.
