The deplorable HB2 law that clown NC governor approved & still defends has forced the NCAA to pull the tourney out of Greensboro. People of NC need to vote that ignorant jerk-off McCrory out of office.

I'm betting Tar Heel faithful will oust this bozo.

Good riddance. If you think it's a "bad bill" you aren't paying attention.

McCrory passed HB2 after demanding the Charlotte mayor recind current transgender rights. You simply cannot do that in this day & age!

My brother is a staunch Republican in Charlotte & says McCrory is toast b-c he doesn't realize this is a serious issue. I have read quite a bit and it seems personal now for the governor. Personal feelings cloud judgement & this will be McRory's downfall.

In the end who gets hurt the most? My family who would have attended the games, workers who lose wages & NC may not host NCAA events for many years.

not the only bad bill he signed. Having to go to court to get police video is another. While I have no intentions of voting for him, I really don't believe kids should have to use the same locker rooms and showers-if this HB-2 means that. And , Charlotte is the reason for HB-2. It had not been a problem prior to that . All in all it really sucks for NC to get hurt by a stupid law which will get repealed at some point in time anyhow.

Hopefully Roy Cooper gets elected governor and gets the bill rescinded before the Supreme Court has to step in and declare it discriminatory on its face. HB2 and McCrory are two HUGE black eyes for the state.

Charlotte is the reason for HB-2. It had not been a problem prior to that.
There are like, 200 other cities across the country with similar protections in place, not including about 10 entire states with such laws. No problems.

So is the NCAA going to allow men who identify as women to play women's sports?
There are specific guidelines for how that can happen. iirc, it includes at least a year's worth of hormone therapy and testosterone levels measuring below a specified level.

I'm not going to get into politics or anything here....but it's coming. As a teacher/coach in the public school system we are already having issues with boys wanting to tryout for girls sports and vice versa stating simply that they "identify as a girl, therefore should be allowed to play girls sports."

Color me not surprised at all. People swear things like that won't happen, but they don't actually care if it does.

That seems politicized to me...

There are medical, age, and academic eligibility issues already; I can't imagine there's much that's simple about dealing with gender issues. There are probably similar standards as what the NCAA requires.

It's NOT discrimination to want men to use the mans bathroom and women to use the women. Wake up people the fact that this is a discussion is sick

Then that's the NCAA problem. If they see this as discrimination they need to open all sports to both sex. Men should be able to play women sport and vice versa

That's not fair though! I'm a woman and I deserve to play womens ball! Stop the blind support man and whoever said Roy Cooper needs to needs to leave the state because he's a disease that has never done his job

No it wasn't....notice I did not give my opinion, just that there are issues arriving from transgenders requesting to play sports with the opposite sex. I have my own opinions, but will keep them to myself.

Fair enough. It was the language you used, referring to "opposite sex" that made me suspect it.

I think what she's getting at is that a woman shouldn't have to worry about a few men taking a roster spot/scholly from a women's sports team because they identify as a woman. I mean if you are the NCAA and taking this stand against NC then you have to go all in right?

Where would it stop??? My 14 year old daughter attends the YMCA almost daily after school. I hardly think that she or myself would be comfortable with her changing clothes beside a man that wants to wear a wig and feel feminine that day. I cant believe that I have seen a day when this is an issue.

There's no threat of that, fortunately. There are some specific, sensible guidelines to address the outlandish concerns about men arbitrarily claiming to be women and stealing women's scholarships. "Identify with" is a phrase that really seems to be tripping a lot of people up.

Personally I do not see why this State of NC law should be a subject the NCAA chooses to toss their weight around with. IMO, especially in this case, politics and sports should be totally separate issues and the only people this will punish are the fans and tax payers and Triad area businesses who had no say so in the NC Governors HB2 Bill. It simply makes the NCAA look unjust like the NBA does.

To add to Coach325's post. So this is a really a far out scenario. What if one of our underclassman decides during the off season that he wants to become a woman , take the season off and become a member of Duke's women's basketball team is that ok? Of course it would have to be a red shirt year but is that possible. I bet through a law suit it would be possible. Ok I've made a social issue/political post and I hope it will be my last;)OFC

Being 14 and seeing such is bad enough but imagine a 4 to lets say 9 year old girl who could very well be traumatized and certainly confused at the sight of a naked man who decides he wants to be a woman.

It violates Title IX, for one. They've made similar stands about the Confederate flag in SC and Mississippi, if not elsewhere. I don't see why it is surprising that an organization that is essentially a university times hundreds would take stances like this.

Additionally, there are 5 states where state schools are forbidden from traveling to NC.

Gov McCrory and the NC GOP have touted HB2 as the Titanic of protecting-little-girls-from-bogeymen laws. Now we're the lightning rod.

It has nothing to do with title IX give us "Deplorables" a break man. 20 states have the same law we proudly have as well

I wonder how many people had to look up the meaning of the word deplorable. Before Hilldogg said it, it had to have been since the movie "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" that I have heard it. Now it's just being thrown around. I love it.

No one goes as far as NC's HB2. It's considered the most restrictive and oppressive in the country. You'll have to convince the Title IX people it has nothing to do with Title IV.

I'm assuming this is our long lost forum for such discussions but goodness how our country has gotten out of hand. I don't think that the government had bathrooms in mind or had any imagination of such in 1972 when Title IX became law. We had never heard of such in the 1960's and in1972, genders went by another name. Title 1X had nothing to do with bathroom use and transg's because it wasn't an issue as hardly anyone was concerned until the last few years when the President decided he wanted a new progressive thinking society and all those who supported him followed regardless of their convictions. A bathroom for each sex is common sense and to describe it any other way is wrong. To be radical why not have a bathroom for however the person chooses if change is the issue, why not have a gender free bathroom. Title 1X was to thwart sex discrimination in learning institutions but they didn't know what a huge future problem bathroom issues would be. Its all about privacy or at least what should be. IMO, how can any person not understand this is not a sex discrimination issue but just common sense and anything different is ludicrous .

Would you rather have that guy in your bathroom? LOL.
In all seriousness, gay men and women share bathrooms with teenagers too. I say just enforce privacy laws and gender norms and if someone really needs to identify as the opposite sex to feel comfortanle, institutions should try and make reasonable accommodations. No need to build third bathrooms, just use common sense.

I always have a chuckle when people tell me that this country is out of hand, haha. That is something that's has been said by every generation about the following generations.

It was said about the baby boomers, gen x members, millenials. Taking a stand for something you believe in isn't out of hand, it's sort of what makes this country amazing. This is a peaceful statement which is the best way to do it.

Without the out of control generations, things like suffrage and civil rights would not exist. Just my opinion though.
