NCAA Volleyball Projections

State went 3-0 this week and dropped 4 spots in the RPI. The SEC is the 4th rated RPI conference, so when you play the bottom teams, it can hurt you. Big RPI opportunity this week with 2 vs. #12 Tennessee. But here are the projected hosts and seeds with just five matches to go. They do matchup conference teams in the regional round but not in the subregional groups of 4.

8. Baylor (14-5)/9. Georgia Tech (21-3)

If they went by S curve, they would send us to Wisconsin. I think we end up on the 8/9 line - either playing in Waco or Atlanta. We did play Tech in the regular season and its the only match where we were completely outmatched. Baylor gave Texas its only loss. We'd really like to avoid being sent to one of the Big Ten powers. Its a different game in the B1G. The ACC is strong as well. My best guess is that we end up at Baylor with Rice as the 3 seed and the Southland winner (probably A&M-Corpus Christi) as the 4.

NCAA does this with almost every sport. Beating a bad team is worse than losing to a top team.

Thanks for putting that together. I wish some of these final games had lined up with a football weekend. Might try to make one of the UT games but it will be tough.

We have more conference wins this season than the previous 4 combined.

Insane meteoric rise. Now 1 game back of UK for first in the conference, guaranteed a top 5 finish. Tough stretch coming up with UT and Arky, and a good chance to grab a decent seed in the tournament.

I've never given a **** about volleyball outside of the Olympics before, but I'll always support a State squad that deserves the attention. Used the ESPN app to stream several of their matches this year, hope to catch some of the action against UT this weekend.
