I've been wondering the same all week long. I thought I was alone in my ignorance.
It's all good. A TweetUp is a live event where a group of people with similar interests who interact through Twitter or online get together for an in-person meetup.
EX) Something like this for Rick Ray next fall

Say you live in Starkville and you have a buddy on the coast who you constantly Tweet back and forth about the Diamond Dawgs with during the season. You have never met this fellow Bulldog, but the TweetUp is a chance to get together and hang out before the game and actually hang out. It's a way to meet all the people you tweet with, hang out with people you follow on Twitter (Bob Carskadon, Bart Gregory, Matt Wyatt, baseball staff members) and get to know them in real life.
Anyone can participate since it's on Twitter, but the in-person aspect is clutch because it's a chance to win tickets (we're giving away multiple tickets to EACH session of the Starkville Regional). It's a chance to win other things like shirts and autographed baseballs. It's a chance be Tweeted by people with 10K plus followers and get your name out there among people who have common interests. Who knows what you'll get in person?
It's a very new concept so to be honest with you; it's not totally defined in terms of structure (MLB has had some big success with it, google Rays TweetUp, Giants, Reds, Red Sox, etc...). No SEC school has ever done it, and I can find on two hands the number of colleges that have done it. The hope is tomorrow is a success and we can apply it for football games (TweetUp in The Junction) and incorporate the jumbotron, ribbon boards, etc... Then for men's basketball and baseball next year, incorporate a t-shirt/ticket package with it.
All we ask is that if you have Twitter, stop by and try it out. If it is cool and you have a good time, let us know. If it sucks, let us know.
