I don’t know who the lady on the board is from Surry County, but she sure didn’t want one school in with the Surry County conference. She was upset and it was very obvious. Anyone want to weigh in on this.
The only one I heard was the lady who thought Elkin should be in with the other Surry Co. schools and the Wilkes schools together. I did not listen to the whole thing, just the last part where they were discussing the Surry and Wilkes conferences. The vote was 16 in favor and 1 against and she was the lady wanting Elkin with the Surry Co, schools that voted against. I really don't think Elkin football-wise wants to be with the Surry Co schools. Elkin is actually as close or closer to most of the conferences they will be in, Alleghany, Ashe County, East Wilkes, Elkin, North Wilkes, Starmount, West Wilkes, and Wilkes Central and the town of Elkin has always reconized with Yadkin & Wilkes Counties because Elkin is the shopping area for a large percentage of those counties more so than Surry. Most all of Surry and some of Stokes, Patrick Co.,Va & Carroll Co. Va. shops in Mount Airy.
