If you put charters in a different playoff then teams like Reidsville will drop to 1a.
So what, you will subdivide anyway. You can’t keep these charters and academies in 1A, and too many don’t play football for 2A. They continue to grow and pop up and need their own class. If you take them out then you can divvy things up more correctly. All they do now is dominate most of the non revenue sports where most true public schools don’t have a chance.

I like it but I don't think it will be that easy to put charters in their own class. They will fight to keep their advantages.
Who cares what they want. They have been lucky to last this long. They have their own class.

out of curiosity I did some rapid math lol, with the 30-20-20-30. Without the privates, charters, academies. This will be a little off, but you would end up with around 114 in 1A, 75 in 2A, 75 in 3A, and 114 in 4A. So when you subdivide in football you would get roughly 57 in each small and big 1A/4A. 32 team brackets would help with the disparity. Of course you could just go 6 classifications and be done with it and have about 64 teams in each class.

Thing is you have put charters somewhere else and you have 64 teams in 6 classes then you have to choose between having around 58 schools counting the ones in 1A now that play football or if you want to only have schools with a ADM under 500 in 1A that would leave you around 34 football schools.

I understand you've been on the 2a boards. Your a little behind us 1a guys that have been dealing with charters for years.
Excuse me. I know as much about 1A as you or anyone else on here I promise you that. My daughters went to a charter school, I’ve coached at a charter school, and I fully understand all the in and outs including that they are public as well as the advantages that they have. They can have their own classification there is zero wrong with that and most would be fine with it. You aren’t kicking them out, but rather making things fair for true small public schools. 2A my bleep you need to know what you are talking about before assuming on someone

I confused you for a ER fan.
If I'm wrong my bad
I am an ER fan. But I worked in the media a long time all across the state and have been to 94 out of 100 for games. 1A schools are what I dealt with mainly coverage wise for three decades and is what I love. I’m happy ER gets to experience 1A because there is no more genuine passion for their teams than small towns and communities at the 1A level. 2A is great, as is 3A and even 4A. But high school sports in its purest form is in 1A imo, and that is just what my personal passion and love is.

Who’s 670? And why not if you subdivide
As far as 1A schools who play football you have I believe 7- 600+ Bertie 603...Mtn Heritage 614.... Bessemer City 622..... Draughn 630...Thomasville...638
...Eastern Randolph 671... Carver 680

5 schools at least in 2A under 600 the lowest I saw was East Carteret @ 534

Of all the schools that have competitive football teams in 1A who really has an advantage based on school size? ER? I know Tarboro would’ve been on the verge of being small 1A this year.

This is the Top 10 on Simmons ratings for 1A with last years ADMs..I only see 3 outliers so why is it unfair to only have 1 division?

Since Adams and Strunk left it’s a complete circus. Should have kept the subdivisions but got rid of them basically due to laziness and used a basic bogus survey which most AD’s and coaches never saw. The playoffs were fine, but they had to change it. They need to go back to what it was, tweak the RPI, and it will be good.
Like you guys play better competition all year !

Every week throwing up their stats and records it’s almost funny . They talking smack , tarboro won’t stay on the field with them , if they get as far as u guys and I don’t think they will , I hope u demolish those loudmouths.

I don’t think ADM can be the measuring stick these days. What would be Tarboro’s ADM if it wasn’t for the Prep School and Early College, 700-800? How many of those kids looking for better academics would be in your halls? I am not trying to throw any shade your way. It is happening all over the state. How do we bridge ADM, talent pools, and population bases? The current map of public schools, charters, and early college has greatly affected education and sports in NC. In a sense we are back to segregating our schools by academics and athletics. I have no idea how to address the issues.

While I believe Ave Daily attendance should be a very important measuring stick, and I have said so on these threads, I do believe there is an inherent unfairness to playing a school with twice your population, I also believe there is a distinct advantage to urban schools of near equal size to their rural counterpart.

The difficulty of getting kids to and from school takes its toll the further a student is from the school.

Also, the added measure of charter schools which can affect "public" schools either positively or negatively. They take away from the Ave Daily Attendance number, therefore, lowering a public school like Mt Airy a classification; but they can also adversely affect in sports by their ability to recruit players.

I do not have the answer to this cluster, but we always want a fair environment and playing field. Does anyone think playing Oak Hill in basketball is fair based on the high school average daily attendance? Well, why do you think no public school has won a NC 1A State Men's Championship in Basketball in the last, oh let us say 150 years?

I know it has only been 8, I think, but my point is when you can recruit, and do recruit, average daily attendance numbers are not the only problem that exist.

But Charter schools aren’t competitive in football in 1A. I don’t see what the issue is with football. It’s sounds to me like it’s a basketball problem.

I just don’t see how anyone can look at one division in football and get upset. I like the idea of all the top dogs in 1A competing for the same championship.

Yes charters are more of a direct issues in basketball and non-revenue sports. But in-directly they are affecting ADM’s at other public schools. Nowadays there can be a big difference in Adm and talent pool in some areas of the state. Example School A has 700 kids in their district. Charter school or Early College opens and now School A has 500 kids. The athletes all stay at School A because of tradition and they grew up watching their Brothers and Uncles play football. Now you have a 1a Adm with a 2a talent pool.

Well a lot of posting about the playoff format but to me my biggest issue was with the realignment format, I believe it should have stayed just based on ADM instead of adding 25% 3 year average of DPI and 25% 3 year average of Wells Fargo cup points which is from what I've read what got Polk their wells Fargo average was higher then Mtn Heritage who has the same ADM#.
On the other side @ 534 East Carteret shouldn't be in 2A .
I still haven't figured out what Wells Fargo cup and DPI has to do with what classification your in.

Well I don't think you can put all those students in Tarboro. NCDPI in 2020 has Tarboro @ 509 the early college ( and it has to be one operated by the county) is 195 students but which district are the from? Edgecombe county has 3 high schools so not all 195 would be in Tarboro district and as far as football I it didn't break down how many was boys & girls but if a boy wanted to play football if the county if it allows I don't believe all do he would have to fill out the forms get the early college principal to sign off.
I'd like to know really how many schools can say they have a significant number or any as far as that goes early college players on their football team.

I think they should count all EC kids from their district just for sports. It's a more accurate representation of the school size and amount of athletes than what we are doing.

All of those kids that go to Charter school wouldn’t go to Tarboro. There’s 3 other high schools in the county..
