I was in the office with Ware when he’d called Meck teams. They would either start stuttering whenever they’d hear, “Hi, this is Coach Ware of Shelby”, or they would instantly hang up on him. The last time it happened with me there, Ware just shook his head, had this cocky little laugh, looked at me, told me that it happens all the time, took a sip of his Gatorade, sat his bottle of Gatorade down on his desk, and said, “Come on, let’s get out of here”.

I'm not talkin about Hopewell or South Meck either

As long as I dont say the "T" word I'm good! Lol. Only thing that worries me about SWE is they struggled with the spread last year in the playoffs. If they can sure that up and find some sort of compliment to #11 they should ok.
North Davidson's size was the problem. We couldn't get anywhere near their qb, and when they ran the ball, the tailback would be at least 3-4 yards downfield before we even could put a hand on him. It was pretty obvious they still had the football team intact after dropping from 4a. We did beat South Central(4a?), they throw it around alot, and Beddingfield used to run spread, haven't seen them in a few years now though. And Coach Cobb was quoted in the newspaper as saying he wanted to schedule some ooc games with teams that run spread offense to help prepare the Cougars for the playoffs.

Man, they competed so hard vs WF, that loss holds no bearing, in my opinion. It upped my respect for WRH if anything. 14 point loss to the 4AA reigning State Champs is impressive.

You think so, man? You’re entitled to your opinion, but those Shelby Boys would definitely want that smoke, Burns too, Cleveland County, period. They would definitely have to show us.

Check out the WF/WRH highlights on youtube and maxpreps.. WF has a 1 ply toilet paper defense that cant' tackle. Clinton and Havelock play better defense than the WF you see on video. If they play like that they're going out 2nd round.

In 4A I thnk you might see RC and MC in finals if RC goes east.

Yeah, I can tell you first hand that South Central 4A team is depleted. Even the games they won were not impressive offensively. Injuries on both lines and young athletes in key spots, have depleted that team. Some of them went down in that very game. The Injuries were fluky too. Ended some seasons. Hated to see it. Beddingfield is also down this year. Im not sure what they were last year when I saw them. Definately not a offensive juggernaut. There is no way coach Cobb or anyone could forsee it when scheduling. I dont think yall will see North Davidson this year. I would like to see you guys find someone to compliment #11 even if it's a TE to take away a safety from double teaming #11. Yall shouldn't have any issues with size this year. Lol

@Maddog Pride Yep! Best Kings Mountain team since that ‘98 Mountaineer team. That was one helluva team. Bubba should have carried the ball more than 15 times in the State Championship, though. WS Carver, LaShun Peoples and company were great too, though.
Bubba wouldn’t be able to play in today’s football. He would get a penalty every time he got the ball. They would create a penalty specifically for him called “Excessively running over”. That was old school football and not that Saaaaawft mommy ball we have now. It’s amazing how the game has changed.

Man, I was just thinking about that earlier, once you mentioned him, how violently that he ran over people.

South Central is definitely not a 4A team to worry about this year, even though they lost only one game last year. Conversely, our next opponent is a 4A team who's only lost 1 game this year, even though their history is riddled with losing seasons. Beddingfield isn't down at all. They are much improved with a first year head coach that played for SWE and was our defensive coordinator just two seasons ago. Not blowing folks out, but finding ways to win. They did get beat bad Monday though. They have been a spread team until this year. He changed their entire offense. They run a power I now and have the Wilson area's leading rusher. He's a bruiser.
We have another 6'3” receiver opposite #11 Porter, but our new QB isn't as accurate down the field as last year's, so Porter's numbers aren't at the same clip as this time last year. Defenses are keying in more on him. Our own defense is better than the numbers suggest. Only gave up 18 to Tarboro, and woke up late versus NNash. Sometimes scoring quickly hurts the defensive numbers. All and all, I think swe will be fine. We definitely won't be challenged the rest of the regular season. I expect to see the team in the east finals vs Northeastern.

South Central only has few kids that have any real live game Varsity experience. 2 are seniors and one is a junior. Some inexperienced seniors have stepped up the best they can but just dont seem to understand what it takes to win. Most of them have the deer in the headlights look. Even those with game experience are having a tough time bringing the inexperienced guys up to speed on what it takes to be a baller. The injuries haven't help and has thrown straight up freshman into the fire. As for SWE, We will see when the admin comes out if you will be paired in NE 's bracket. They are usually single A. SWE has been on my strong contender list long before any polls came out for you guys this year. Was telling Goobs about a month ago you guys are a force to be reckoned with. I Have watched the team closely the last 4 years even been to a couple playoff games. What 4A team do you guys play next? I may look it up before you can tell me lol

I don't know why it slipped my mind that NE was 2A last year. I think I was thinking about the fact that we saw them in the 2AA 3rd round in 2014 (and got thoroughly embarrassed). SWEs numbers have gone down each of the past several years, and it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up in the 2A bracket.
We play at Corinth Holders next. Very young program. Young as in new. 9 year old school, 43-55 record, 3 wins each of the last 3 seasons. 4-1 this year, but the wins have come against very bad competition. We do not have a good conference at all, which is why I said we won't be challenged anymore in the regular season. Beddingfield is the only OK team left, and they don't have the firepower to keep up. We'll have at least 3 home playoff games, which is why I feel confident in the regional finals appearance prediction. That home stretch didn't help us last year though lol.

I know your conference all too well. Wouldnt surprise me if Farmville folded in the next 2 years.Corinth Holders aren't looking too bad they are still trying to get into the rythm of winning games. They are going in the right direction though. Winning helps even if it is against bad competition.

Is Bartlett Yancey the only undefeated 2A team left?

Salisbury and Oak Grove are still undefeated in the 2A Central Carolina Conference. There are 9-10 2A teams still undefeated at this point, seems like a few of them would be better than a team with a loss on their record for rankings.

Exactly! Hellacious line with one of the best runningbacks to ever come through Cleveland County running behind it., but Carver had some freakish athletes on that team. Speaking of Carver, I thought about them recently from reading stuff in another thread. I remember when they first moved down to 2A, the few posters they had at that time posted they would be unbeatable in 2A, and we all know how that has turned out, they have never come close to a title since moving down, just goes to show how competitive 2A has always been.

Carver did go to states against Tarboro. I think in 2010 they nearly won it. I seen them twice that year, they had a good team.

Lord look who is SUDDENLY TALKING STATE TITLE. THE MIGHTY UNBEATABLE BURN BULL DOGS [ WOW.] I guess THE MIGHTY GOLDEN LIONS should start WORKING ON THEIR 3 POINT SHOTS FOR BASKETBALL.

This guy is nothing but a troll doll, not even a good one at that. disappears like his moms tax refund on some Jordans and a Buy Here Pay Here car. Once KM gets bounced from an average team or Catholic even, then he will be gone like his trailer on a windy day. I kinda pulled for KM some this season too, makes me rethink that.

One team everyone is looking over because of their record is the Anson Bearcats. They’re 3-3 and their 3 losses have come against higher classified teams in Monroe, Richmond, and Lee County. Watch out for them later in season

Was it '97 or '98. I was thinking we watched that game. In '98 we played in the state championship on a Thursday night and drove home after we won. In '97 we played at like 11 am.

According to the old links, in 98 you all blew away the unstoppable running game of those mighty Tarboro Vikings the dustmites out east brag about.

Yup....my ring says it...34-14. Pretty sure one of their scores was in the last few minutes of the game.

Just looked and KM state championship appearance was '98.

Oak Grove might get a chance to get in on this poll later. If they beat Salisbury and Ledford they probably will.

If you will remember Tarboro warmed up in the parking lot and not on the field and they ran that old Notre Dame box and had a lot of motion and stuff. Instead of worry with all that Shelby just tackled all of them on every play and beat the snot out of them.

I think Oak Grove deserves a mention if they beat Salisbury and Ledford... I’m not sold on them being a top 10 team though. They have to run the table to even be considered for an honorable mention.

Then, let the playoffs sort it all out.

I’m excited to start seeing the playoff projections from various sources in a few weeks. This season is going by too quickly!

Another team that's playing well this year is West Stanly. They are 5-0 now and have destroyed everyone they've beaten. My Forest Hills teams is next up for them after a bye week. My Jackets have been down the last few years so I don't ever know what to expect from them. Could be a good game or a blowout. West Stanly might not be on the level as the top teams but they could give someone a scare in the playoffs.

Great catch! I missed West Stanly due to their being in the 2A conference with 3A Montgomery Central.

I wrote in a thread that if West Stanly beats Anson in a few weeks they will most likely end the season at undefeated at 10-0. They have a big time prospect, several very good players, and the S&C program is handled by a former FBS S&C coach / player. Huge difference!

I would have them in the top 10, if it was based on 10 teams. Better yet, looking back at it, I agree with you. I would put them at no. 8, and take Pisgah out, no disrespect to those guys. South Point is quietly returning back to form.

I hardly think it is fair for South Point to be in the top 10 but they indeed are beginning to put the pieces together. They recently lost one of their senior safeties for the season so the injury bug continues to interrupt their development. However by playoff time they are going to upset some higher ranked teams on the road.

West Stanly Colts are 5-0 also.....easy to miss. In a conference with one 3A team Montgomery Central and four 2A schools that include Forest Hills, Anson County and Mount Pleasant.
