RB NEAL SAYS RECRUITMENT IS OPEN

By Josh Ward
Published Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Rajion Neal is no longer a firm commitment to Mississippi State.

The 5-foot-11, 214-pound running back from Sandy Creek High School in
Tyrone, Ga., told the News Sentinel on Tuesday his recruitment is
“open.”

Neal visited Tennessee last weekend and said he will seriously consider
signing with the Vols on National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

“It affected me a lot,” Neal said of his trip to UT. “It’s a place I
have always been fond of. Going there was a good experience for me and I
enjoyed myself.”

Neal said he could see himself playing in UT’s offense.

That picture was painted by head coach Derek Dooley and offensive
coordinator Jim Chaney.

“They said this was a place where I was wanted and needed and a place I
could fit in with the offense and the program,” Neal said.

Neal said he hopes to make a final decision by early next week.

He said he has no leader and is unsure if he’ll visit another school
this weekend.

Neal’s only other visit was to Mississippi State on Jan. 15.

I know we have a stable full of RBs, but they are all unproven. We need as many quality prospects as we can get. He doesn't get alot of hype by the locals since he's a GA kid - but, he a Top 10 GA prospect. This one will sting bad - especially if we lose out to UT after an apparent downgrade in their coaching staffs.

the dude is going to UT. He's not going there b/c of Dooley's offense, and he's not not coming to State b/c of Mullen ... he's simply going to UT b/c it's UT.

He's gone .. we have plenty of rb's and we'll no doubt recruit more next year.

the article is from the Knoxville News Sentinel - and doesn't quote Neal very much. recruiting is about relationships and Mullen has been on this guy for so long. If Georgia or GA Tech offer he's gone - but with the state of UT right now, i think we can hold onto him.

i have nothing to support my opinions.

I just spoke with afreind that lives in Knoxville, and is a big UT booster. He said this was a rumor he heard, but Bryce Brown gave notice to the new staff he was transferring to USC after the semester is over. They now are targeting a couple of rb'sto fill the hole and Neal is one.

He obviously loves kick coverage and we told him that he'd have to play runningback.

first because I'm getting tired of investing so much time and effort on out-of-state guys like Newton, Brunetti and now Neal who either commit or lead you to believe they are going to commit only to have them leave you at the altar when someone slightly better looking in their eyes comes along and offers at the 11th hour. Its like reliving the Scotty Hopson saga all over again. At least the in-state kids seem to normally stay firm in their decisions to us once they make them due to having some loyalty to playing in the state they grew up in.

Nick Griffin is going to be a good RB, and if we didn't have as good of an option as Griffin , I would be very concerned about losing Neal. Let him go sit at Tennessee. We are about to get Chelarvez Brown to commit for next years class anyway. He's gonna commit on February 13th, and he said he would be an early Valentine's Day present for Mullen. So right now, I'm not concerned.
