If WVU can get good blocks the seams are very vulnerable in the 3-3-5 defense as are the deep sidelines. Either that, or power football right up the middle and then play action off of that. Force them to commit to stopping the run and throw the ball over top.

Need to remember that less is more against the 3-3-5

Since WVU blocking sucks so far then the need to hit passes is a must.

Left Tackle: You have someone head up to outside of you so you will base block that man.

Left Guard: You don’t have a defender in your play side B-Gap, nor do you have a defender in your back side A-gap. So you will help the center double team the nose, while having your eyes on the Front Side Linebacker. Once the Front Side Linebacker triggers towards the line of scrimmage then you will come off the double team and block him.

Center: You are covered. Therefore you will block the nose guard. Easy.

Right Guard: You do not have anyone in your front side A-Gap. You do have a B-gap defender in the back side B-Gap, but you know the center is covered. So you will double the nose with your eyes on the Back Side Linebacker/Middle Linebacker. When the Back Side Linebacker/Middle Linebacker triggers towards the line of scrimmage then you will come off the double team and block him.

Right Tackle: You have a 4i and you know that the center is covered. So you will arc release – meaning you will not block the guy in the play side B-Gap – and immediately block the linebacker that is head up to outside of you.

Quarterback Reads
The B-Gap defender. If the B-Gap defender runs straight at you then you will hand the ball off to the Running Back. If the B-Gap defender flies towards the Running Back then you will pull the ball and chase the butt of the Right Tackle.

If the Outside Linebacker lined up over the Y comes to tackle you then you will flip the ball out to the F receiver running the key screen. If the Outside Linebacker lined up over the Y chases the key screen then you will turn up and score.

Should be running the normal quick screen.

The R receiver will block the corner.

The Y receiver will block the Outside Linebacker over him. If the Outside Linebacker chases the Quarterback then you will turn up and block the first different colored jersey you see.

The F receiver will take one step forward and then back pedal. You are looking for the ball. If you get it then you will put your foot in the ground and get North and South.

I agree about the talent at NC State.

They have some players on that team and have recruited very well especially on the DLine.

But WVU was punched in the mouth and this will happen in college football. The team didn't respond in the game but you are interested in how the team responds in the next game.

Don't know much about the QB at NC State but he is the key.
Can he throw the ball. Pretty much play Flyover Football.
WV needs to be more aggressive stopping the run and force the QB into making these throws.
Can't just sit back on them.

It is more about finding what works and go from there.
I don't think WV has any plays they can develop a game plan from so they must develop a game plan by what works against the other team.

I think Kendall should be involved in the run game more or at least bring in a QB who can.
From that you have 20-30 plays from the 2-4 QB designed runs.

It's more about the 5 keys.

Having players does make a difference in those 5 keys.

Kendall in the run game? He is to awkward looking with the ball. I would have loved to see Skyler Howard in this offense.

I have to admit I didn't watch much of that game Saturday. Wanted to get things done so I could watch football in the evening.

Will try to watch some on Saturday but more interested in the K State vs Miss State game.

I did think the OLine was going to have some issues but thought WV had enough skill at QB and at WR to move the ball well.

I do think Kendall is athletic enough to move the ball with his feet.
Some RPO is what is needed IMO. Isolate WRs in favorable matchups against LBs.

WVU has enough talent on the perimeter to make some plays. After you can get some momentum you run the ball through tempo.

No need to watch KSU get their asses kicked by Miss. State.

Miss State beat them by 21 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS.

That was a team in turmoil. They wanted to push out Bill Snyder.
For as much as they had on offense they shouldn't have been 5-7. You saw glimpses of it last year.
Chris Klieman has made Skylar Thompson into the QB he should have been last year. In terms of checking at the LOS and going through his progressions.
This is with a quality OL even after losing their top LT last year. Miss State on the other hand doesn't have the DL they did last year.

Should be a good game.

Regarding WVU.

They need to move their QB out of the pocket and either use short crossing routes to their speed or set up screens if NC State blitz.

They have to use penetration against the defense. More people get into backfield more room there is.
Except if Kendall cannot move, is too scared to step into the pocket or cannot make the throws.

I was thinking the same thing after the Missouri game. They need to move the pocket. Yes he is timid on stepping up into the pocket.

Mississippi State is going to pound KSU.

KSU beat a horrible Bowling Green Team but did beat a fairly good Nicholls State team that is ranked 12 in FCS.

Miss. State beat 2 FBS G5 teams. Both a game above .500 last year.

The game is at Davis Wade Stadium, Starkville, MS

He is trying to set up the run to open up the playbook. Sometimes you have to establish the run by other ways.
There are 10-15 different ways to run the ball in football today. Especially with what WV has on the perimeter. Need to get the ball in the hands of the WRs like Bush and James and establish the run that way.

Regarding Miss State.
Dan Mullen isn't there. You began to see cracks last year and you see it this year in their first two games. They struggled against ULL.
Tommy Stevens is the question. Can he make the needed throws.

I believe it was the QB counter but looks like Kendall can run the play.

He could be a weapon with the QB run game especially against teams like Iowa State and others that want to drop into zone coverage

Big miss there.

In my lifetime, Miss State and Ole Miss have been typically less than successful programs, moreso mississippi state than ole miss. When Freeze was let go at Ole Miss and Mullen bailed for Florida, I was pretty sure that would bring both back to reality. I was stationed in Meridian for a while, and I liked Mississippi as a state. It is a shame they have to face off against the likes of Bama, LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn every year. They just can’t seem to consistently compete resource-wise with those programs. Most of the elite athletes in Mississippi appear to go out of state.

Back when the BCS was still alive, I thought the Big East would have been a good competitive option for the Mississippi schools. I enjoyed our two-game series with State. They could never have afforded the pay cut to leave the SEC, but it would have been good for them as far as win totals go.

My mom's people are from the Memphis area. Most are from or still are in Southaven, MS.

It is well known facts that Mississippi schools are dirty but the difference elsewhere is the Mississippi schools are looking to turn each other in.
Started with the biggest cheater in college football history in Jackie Sherrill.
Miss State was just hit by the NCAA prior to the season because OM was just in trouble.
Mutual Assured Destruction.
Plus Joe Moorhead isn't Dan Mullen. They tried to sell Moorhead as this future Dan Mullen but he isn't close.
If Miss State was smart they would look to bring in Joe Brady from LSU.

They lost a lot of talent last year due to the NFL draft and Moorhead isn't the guy to replace them.
