Well...I didn't expect NU to win this game, but I was hoping it would at least be competitive. NU is clearly out of their league tonight - 'Nova is just so much better. There are 10-12 games on the schedule with teams of this caliber, so maybe NU will be able to learn from this route tonight. Plus, Incarnate Word isn't on the schedule this year...

Good to have a game like this very early. Young kids now know what big time college basketball is! Nova is solid!!

That's assuming they have the ability to learn and correct themselves. I haven't seen enough of them to make that call. I've seen an awful lot of really stupid basketball though. Nova is a very good team and I didn't expect to win tonight. I'd have felt better if we didn't have LOOOOONG stretches where we just got straight bowled over.

You think there are 10-12 teams on the schedule that are top 10 teams? I think you're giving the Big 10 a bit too much credit for what I've seen so far from the conference.

I'm sorry, but how is Tai Webster still this sloppy with the basketball? He's a freaking Junior. I'm really tired of watching him make 5 or 6 just incredibly stupid plays a game.
Agreed. He brings zero offense and plays bad defense. He's just a body on the floor at this point.

With the articles written every fall about how much he's improved, I can't tell whether he's incredibly weak mentally and Miles is trying to build up his confidence, or he's a massive choke artist. But it's one or the other, because his play has never, ever matched the accolades he gets before the season.

Edit: I guess there's a third option. We're a really bad basketball team and he schools the rest of the team in practice.

I don't think Webster has shown any improvement from his freshman year. Either he peaked in high school or Miles and staff aren't developing or both.

That's why I'm saying it's weird that every fall, there's an article about how the team is telling people Webster has improved a ton. If he's improving, it's not showing up at game time. And if he's not improving, I don't understand why they keep telling the media he is. It's the same crap we used to hear about taylor martinez "Oh he's become a much better passer over the summer" Then the season comes along and the dude is throwing ducks all over the field.

We've got some players. Watson, Morrow, Shields, and White are a talented 4. Get some seasoning.

Have you seen Benny Parker? He's better than the alternative. That changes next year I think/hope. It may even change as Watson matures this year.

From what I've seen from Watson, he is a already better than Webster. He is going to be our starting point within 4 or 5 games.

I certainly hope so. I'm just saying it's not like Webster is starting and 3 obviously better players are rotting on the pine. Our talent is better this year than last and will be ever better next year, but Miles still has a ways to go before he can bench someone like Webster. He's not particularly good when compared to top notch D1 talent, but he's not Walkon level bad.

I was talking to a guy about the same thing you mentioned earlier. I think Webster needs to visit with a sports psychologist. A guy can't play so well for his national team, and then look like he does for us. There is something not right with the kid.

yeah, because it's not even like the mistakes he makes are because he's overmatched. Like the inbounds play tonight. He just kinda started running upcourt, like he forgot he had to throw it in. There was another turnover where he just kind of held the ball out there for his teammate and the opponent ran and grabbed it. It's a lack of concentration or something. Being a Cubs fan, he reminds me a lot of Starlin Castro. Always talked about as having a ton of talent, does weird, inexplicable things once the game is on the line.

Watching this team post-under-8 timeout, it was painfully obvious it was SOSDD. You CANNOT got 7 minute stretches in "major" college basketball without scoring AND committing mistake after mistake leading to points. The commentators and twitter-heads were slobbering all over the Villanova's 22-2 run to close out the half. Yeah, you know what prevents that? Literally not doing all of the **** Nebraska did in combination, over and over again, to allow it. It's just so damned frustrating to watch. Once again, we'll have a built in excuse of "youth" to explain away this repeat phenomenon, but that shouldn't be acceptable. How can you be competitive for 12 minutes, and totally lose it? And virtually by your own doing.

I also now have to stomach seeing friends that are Nova grads. My only solace is that if you can count on anything, it's Nova taking an early exit come March.

Seeing two games now it is pretty obvious that Webster really needs to take a seat and have his minutes shrink to a small number. Watson is small and it will be a long season for him, but right now Tai is not doing anything to help the team. I think you can role with a starting 5 of Parker, White, Shields, Morrow and Hammond and then rotate in McVeigh, Jacobson, Fuller and Watson, that give you 9, and I would take a hard look at giving some of Tai's minutes to Bakari Evelyn.

So far, do you guys think White is better then Pettway?
White is a better basketball player than Petteway. No doubt. Petteway could get hot and carry a team, but I don't think that's the kind of player you want to build a team around. White seemed to play within the offense and didn't simply shoot for shooting sake.

Fun first 15 minutes, things went sideways when Andrew White picked up his 2nd foul. By the time he came back in, too late. Sucks that Shavon went missing during that span, one FG attempt from a senior, ugh.

Upgrade in talent, upgrade in ball movement (for the most part), gonna be fun to watch them develop.

Agree with what has been stated previously. The Nova game this early in the season does nothing but help the team understand big-time basketball. I'd take this game over a patsy certainly. Now don't get me wrong, the patsies will also serve their purpose, but only mixed in with a solid team like this.

I see Morrow as being a big time producer in his career (may not be huge this year, but he is a gem), Watson will be better, but he's not the take control point guard we need for this season.

White, as everyone has mentioned, looks to be the real deal. I do think this team, by the end of the season, will be light years ahead of where they are right now. And that is very exciting. With the new guys signed for next year, I am definitely confident that Miles has them on the right track. It's almost a shame that we tasted the NCAA glory two years ago, because it was accomplished by smoke and mirrors and Miles was basically forced to roll the dice again on the same structure last year - basically putting the team plan behind schedule.

I still think Webster might be serviceable, but I'm having a harder time seeing it after each game.

I agree Webster is serviceable but needs to come off the bench. Disappointed in Parker's play. Way too many turnovers, especially since he is a non-scorer. If he was also throwing in 15 points a night you could tolerate it a little. I'm guessing we will have new guards starting within 2 weeks if anyone steps up.
