it's for an LG 50LN5100 tv. I'd rather not pay over a $100 bucks since it will only be used periodically at a 2nd location. Any recommendation(s)? Thanks.

On a $100 budget, I'd go to Wally World and get a Vizio soundbar.

Hijack Notice: My daughter got one of these little dudes recently to put in her shower and damn for $20 it rocks. I use it outside when firing up the grill, in the shower, used it at the beach last week. Its rechargeable or you can plug and play, has a speaker cable that you can plug in direct to phone, tablet, etc, or the bluetooth works great if its close to the source (20'-30') For $20 its pretty damn good (Bed Bath and Beyond is where she got mine).
I got a vizio 42" sound bar for Christmas it retails at Wal-Mart for $99.It has optical out and bluetooth capability and was one of the few that actually included all of the wires in the box. It sounds really good too.
