I am setting myself up for ridicule on this board, so I hope my skin is thick.

I am looking into getting a DVR. I currently have a DVD player and a VCR. If I want to record something, I tape it on the VCR. You know, a plain old-fashioned VCR with a VHS tape.

Any advice on DVR? I live in the Jackson metro area and currently have Comcast Cable, so I could get the DVR through Comcast? Would I be better to get TIVO instead? Any advice for someone trying to move into the 21st century of TV recording?

(for the record, I do have High-def TV and an Iphone, so I'm not totally behind the technology curve)

Comcast has one that's fine. I currently use DirecTV and am more than happy with the DVR'ing it can do.

This is the ONLY way to go for most people. You get one touch recording of anything you want, it's simple and easy to set up and operate (actually I think they may even set it up for you).

Go with whatever our cable company provides. They are very easy to use.

I will say I laughed at the thought of a VCR hooked up to a HD tv for recording stuff. I didn't know they even sold VHS tapes anymore

It will be the simplest way of doing things. You'll love it and you will wonder how you ever lived without a DVR.

and it takes all but about2 minutes for them to install and program it. From what he said, it's a different company that makes the new box andit has a lot more memory than the older one.

I know I am replying to myself, but this question is for everyone. If I get the Comcast DVR, I know I can record shows to watch later. Will I also be able to pause live TV, rewind live TV, start watching a show at 8:20 that is shown from 8:00 to 10:00 and skip the commercials until I catch up? Can I do all of that?

Thanks for everyone's advice.
