Two for one dogtuff! It's wishful thinking, but it would be an interesting prospect! No doubt it would be the game of the week. Would have to get some Corp. sponsorship. Plymouth probably can't afford to make the trip. Could be an ongoing thing. Take the two teams that play in the State Championship in the best or closest game and match them up the next season. Maybe call it something like East vs West 2.0 I don't know. Sell t-shirts. Give the NCHSAA a cut and I'm sure I'm sure it could get done!

If two teams from the same sub class are good enough let them meet in the playoffs.

I would prefer to see Murphy play a solid 2A team like Brevard. Less travel, better gate.

Did Murphy play Hendersonville in a home and away deal ? I couldn't remember Hendo coming to the hill. Scores of the series?

Hayesville has Heritage next year.

The problem with having say Murphy vs Plymouth (Two state finalist) is that most schools schedule two year contracts.

What the hell, let's make it happen. Most of Plymouth's kids haven't been anywhere except the State Championship game and would probably love the mountains. I'm sure your kids would love to check out the ocean about an hour away! Not only a great game, but the educational opportunities would make it worth the extra day out of school needed to make this work. It would take some work and probably would need to get a grant of some kind from Raleigh to help off set the cost, but like I said this would be a great educational opportunity for both schools. Your thoughts?

Plymouth can afford to make the trip if it wants too. Make it a home and home the travel would be good both teams and the kids to see different parts of NC.. If you can remember West Montgomery traveled to Plymouth a few years back almost to the Atlantic Ocean.

Plymouth needs a game also. Why don't you guys meet in Greensboro or Winston Salem? Gate would probably suck, but it would be a hell of a regular season game!
Get the okay from the power that be and play the game on a Saturday then the traveling team could lead on Friday and play on Saturday like they do in college and the pros the kids will be just fine. Later. Peace.

Any updates on the Murphy open date. I personally don't think that Plymouth makes sense. Why drive completely across the state?

Some teams travel from one coast to the other to play if they really want to play the game and if the money is right. There's a team coming from California to play Colquitt County in Ga. another team coming from Florida to play Oscar Smith in Chesapeak,Va. the kids love the travel. NC football need to get out of the stone age mentality. Although their are some good football players in NC most are way behind the kids that have spring football practices and scrimmages.

The kids in NC can't help what the NCHSAA does as far as spring practice is concerned.

If the coaches and the AD's push it hard enough they can make it happen some coaches want it bad but the schools administration must be together on this to make it happen.

Yes, I remember West Montgomery coming to Plymouth. It was a one game contract because Plymouth couldn't commit to making a return trip. Not sure now, but several years ago Washington Co. was the poorest co. in NC. The above games come with some ESPN money, at least the Oscar Smith game I know for sure. The first State Championship Plymouth played in back in 2007 they wore old Elizabeth City State jerseys that they were able to purchase for like $5.00 each. Needless to say they were worn out and ugly. Things have gotten better in the uniform Dept., but I don't think they could finance the trip to Murphy without some kind of sponsorship of some kind. Would be fun and a great experience for both teams. When I hit the lottery, I'll finance it. Lol

I think I'm the early 80's my beloved Knights play Bath High school in a State Championship game. Is that in Washington county ? Bath had a running back by the name Bubba Waters that carried the ball about 12 times in the first half for around 120 yards and in the second half 3 carries for 5 yards. Never understood that coaching approach and yes my Knights won 24-8 ( I think )

It's close. Bath, which consolidated with Belhaven years back to make Northside, is actually in Beaufort Co. The old Bath High School and Plymouth High School are about 20-30 minutes apart. Bubba Waters went on to play LB at East Carolina. He had hurt his knee the last week of the regular season and gutted it out as long as he could. He was limited in the 2nd half of that championship game not from a hit, but he stepped in a hole at halftime. That was 1982 and you guys won 21-6. The following season you came to Creswell and won 28-6. Now Creswell is in Washington Co. so if you came down for the 83 game, you have more than likely been to Plymouth. My question to you is did you dig that hole in 82? Stephen Braddy was also in that backfield, and he played at ECU also.

I love it when you had to go to the higher seed for champion ship game. I think it would've been a bigger advantage for the West though. All us mountain boys have been to the coast but what a shock it would've be for a coast team to come to robbinsville.

Plymouth can afford it if they wanted to play the game. They have one of the biggest paper producing company in the United State in Weyerhauser located in Plymouth that will contribute financially if asked plus other businesses in the area that will help out also if asked. Coach Cody is also the AD and have a lot of juice in the area. Plus some famous alumni and entertainers that will help out also as a matter of fact one of them have his own national TV show and also is in a lot of commercials on TV. Plymouth could make it happen if they wanted to. That's all i'm going to say about that.

Hornet, I see you've been reading Wikipedia. I'm not sure if J.B.Smoove remembers where Plymouth is located anymore. Former Duke and Miami Dolphin player Charles Bowser has been a Hugh supporter of the program since 2005. He started a summer camp cosponsored by the Dolphins and the NFL. The Dolphins send a couple cheerleaders and help with financing the camp. Go back and read that Wikipedia article again. Weyerhauser sold off the papermill part to Domtar and only operates the sawmill part of the operation. They do their part for the program providing funds to purchase some much needed equipment. Weyerhauser has always been tight. Not sure how much they have contributed, but I believe I could write a check right now to match that figure. There are a few businesses that support Viking football, but not willing to finance a trip like that. You're talking about at least 15-20 hotel rooms using quad occupancy, meals for 35-40 players, gas, cost of any educational opportunities they may wish to partake in. So rough estimate I'm saying close to $7,500.00 for two days. Now if they can play on a Saturday and play say at noon, they would only have to stay one night so maybe you could get down to say $4,800.00. Maybe more if the cheerleaders and band come along. I know that may not sound like a lot, but it's a lot for a poor school in a poor community.. I'm not on staff at the school, and I'm not on the coaching staff, but I do have my nose in the program a little. As far as Coach Cody is conceded, I think he would be happy to do it, but he can't just take the money out of the budget. Maybe he can ask the school board for the money, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening either. I know the Wikipedia page paints a pretty picture, but look at the median income numbers and I think you'll get a better understanding on the poverty levels in Washington County!

Yea man JB was in Plymouth this past summer visiting family and friends. Plus again they could play on Saturday and they have at least eight months to raise $10,000 from the fans and businesses in the community and what coach Cody has done for that team, school, and community I cannot see the school board turning him down if he asked and if they did they would be looking for another coach because why be loyal to them if they aren't loyal to you? Coach Cody wouldn't have a problem finding another coaching jobs that pays a lot more than Plymouth pay him especially in SC. or GA. where a good head coach can make at least a $100,000 a year plus with more say in scheduling games in and out of state. Colquitt County High School has a team coming from California to play them in little old Moultrie,GA.. Colquitt County I admire how their coach will schedule most any teams and will pay them to come to Georgia. I know after they played Westlake in a playoff game the next season they paid Westlake $14,000 dollars for a two year deal to play at their place. Their stadium is about the same size as Shelby and Shelby won't pay to bring any good team to their house they have the money just like Colquitt County does but won't spend it on good out of state teams I know their fans would like to see them play. If Shelby want IMG to come to them so they could have home field advantage let me know and they most likely would play on ESPN. Later.

According to Wikipedia JB moved to New York as a small child, thus zero affinity for Plymouth High School or Plymouth High athletics, counting on him to provide funds for Plymouth schools would be moronic.

Hell Murphy High counts the former Columbia Records hip hop and R&B division president Michael Mauldin (Jermaine Dupri's dad) as well as NFL All Pro Carl Pickens among their alumni and to my knowledge neither has ever contributed a dime to Murphy High or Murphy athletics, what makes you think a dude who never even went to Plymouth schools would?

Has the coaches of the school asked those guys for help with their program or school? If you don't ask you won't receive. Further more as far as JB goes he still has family in Plymouth and visit about once a year plus he does enjoy sports and at times he does have athletes on his show. Plus there are a lot of alumni from Plymouth that's into sports. Again if you don't ask you won't receive so you don't whether they will contribute or not to help out. Peace i'm out.
