When I attempt to enter Chat, it throws me out of Firefox.

That should not be the case with a modern Firefox as plugin-container was separated from the browser to prevent exactly this. i.e. plugin-container can crash and not pull over the browser itself. If memory serves me correctly, this was separated in version 3.6.

Have you tried clearing your cache?

Have you checked you in fact have Java and that it is enabled?

Have you checked that your Java is up to date?

If you are on an older version of Firefox, have you cleared your Java cache?

Do you have an adequately sized Java cache?

There are a couple of links in this topic, which will help you get started on that: http://forums.sixpackspeak.com/showthread.php?90301-Chat-Room

If you are using a later version of Firefox, you may have a corrupt profile. You may need to follow the troubleshooting procedure: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes

Just a thought though. Unfortunately, hardware acceleration is enabled by default, even if your machine cannot properly handle it. Try turning this off. Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing > Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration where available" > Click OK.

Please let us know how you get on.

I still can't get into chat. I have Firefox version 14.0.1...maybe it's a beta version? It still throws me completely out of Firefox...guess I'll just continue trying. I have Java etc and it's enabled...also cache cleaned.

No, 14.0.1 is a legitimate patched version and fairly recent.

There is plenty more information in my previous post, of which one piece is highly likely to resolve your issue. From the sound of it, you may be up to this point:

I'll try the troubleshooting procedure but it sure looks like a helluva lot of trouble to do to. I did the hardware accelleration thing. Thanks for trying to help at any rate.

When something like that goes wrong, there is a helluva lot of trouble to go to to get it resolved. Firefox can break in numerous ways and yes it does take time to fix. People often make the mistake of uninstalling and reinstalling but the same old broken profile gets retained, unless you follow the detail for removing it (and backing it up).

Perhaps your quickest solution would be to create a new profile, then migrate your bookmarks, etc. from one to another.

I've been in chat and it is very nice and works well! It sure would be worth it. As an alternative, you could get an additional browser, if you don't want to spend time fixing Firefox.

What I would come back to though is if something is broken, then likely other things are broken too. Additionally, things tend to get worse instead of better. Personally, I would just fix it. It may take 10 mins. It may take an hour. From that point on though, you are good to go.
