Need help with a cleavage issue

Yeah, you read that correctly. In 30 years of teaching undergraduates, I’ve seen a lot of, ahem, cleavage. I usually ignore it - or pull a Jerry Seinfeld - but I’m having a difficult time this semester with one particular student who sits right in front of me when I’m talking to the class and apparently has no qualms displaying her physical attributes.

Today, as I was handing out an assignment, I happened to look at her and noticed not just her cleavage, but also that her nipples were protruding through her top. As soon as I saw that, I immediately looked away since I’m like 40 years older than them and not a perv.

Confounding my dilemma is the fact that she’s very attractive (you can throw a flag, but it ain’t gonna’ happen) and an outstanding student who asks a lot of really good questions, so I HAVE to look at her.

After class, as I was walking back to my office, I thought…why not ask the AKB for guidance and advice on how to deal with this “problem” since, let’s face it, what else is there to discuss right now?

So, anyway, what do all ya’ll got for me?

Are the desks bolted to the floor? Change the seating dynamics. Break up the rows of desks. In a past life, several careers ago, I changed the classroom desks to a half circle, but not due to your situation.

Do you lecture from the podium or are you a "walk and talk" guy? I'd move to another side of the room, if possible. If you walk and talk, stay to either side of seated location.

As a retired teacher who taught college, here is what I would and would not do.
1. Do NOT go to anyone at the college, particularly a woman. Accusations may follow.
2. Do your best to ignore it or VERY subtly enjoy the show.

Yes. And #2 isn’t that hard. Maintain plausible deniability. Don’t mention it to your wife either.

The problem with the room configuration is that there are exactly the same number of seats as there are students, and students typically sit in the same spot every class. I can’t just ask her to move because she’ll ask me why.

Definitely a walk and talk guy, but it’s gonna’ happen again no matter what I do.

Oh, don’t worry, I won’t. That’s why I decided to turn to the AKB. I can’t imagine that this hasn’t happened to every one of my heterosexual male colleagues at some point, but it’s not the kind of thing that comes up at faculty senate meetings.

That’s what I have been doing and what I am going to do. But it’s distracting and I have this fear that she’ll look at me at exactly the wrong moment, if you know what I mean.

Plausible deniability. If she were in my class I could have always told her I was talking about the sine function.

I have a saying that I use. Chin(s) and up. When I am talking to, in my case, parents of students I don’t look below the lowest chin. Now granted, sometimes that is very close close to the cleavage but that’s my limit.
