Our traditional rival won't claim us. And let's face it, they aren't going to generate any excitement or angst this year.<div>
</div><div>We need somebody new to hate. Who's it gonna be?</div><div>
</div><div>Personally, I'd like to go with BYU. They deserve to be slobber-knocked by us. Problem: we don't play them in the foreseeable future.</div><div>
</div><div>Alabama? They're 90 miles from us. I can't stand those roll tide 17er's.</div><div>
</div><div>Arkansas? We can all but never beat them. Which makes me want to beat them. Badly.</div><div>
</div><div>LSU? See Arkansas. Plus we can argue with our old rival over which one of us hates LSU the most.</div><div>
</div><div>Suggestions?</div><div>

After Auburn gets hammered for cheating their way to a National Championship (with probable Death Penalty), we'll be scrambling to get two new football teams into the SEC simply to keep up the numbers. We already have Texas A&M, but we also need to add Missouri, SMU, and Rice. These additions lock up the St. Louis/KC, Houston, and Dallas/Ft. Worth Markets. In the east, we need to add Clemson (they're more like an SEC program anyway, plus we get the Charlotte market) and NC State. SMU and Rice would be easy wins for the elite power schools like Alabama, the Mississippi State University, LSU, and Florida. <div>
</div><div>...I say our new rival should be Alabama. Since Auburn will be booted from the conference for being more corrupt than the Ottoman Empire, Alabama will turn to the elite power school to the west of them to fill that void. It's a natural- Inter State rivalry, only 90 miles apart, Corch Mullen calling them "The School Over To The East" (TSOTTE) to get under their skin....yes, I can see the "Highway 82 trophy" (a huge piece of worn-out asphalt on a 4 foot trophy base)..</div>

they are always decent-to-good, but after putting everything we have into Bama and then looking forward to OM..... we always lose to them. We are in NO WAY good enough to "overlook" an SEC West opponent, especially a good one, but that basically happens every year..... and will continue to happen. The only time we will ever beat them is when we are actually unbelievable 17-ing good.

Thats the reason we always lose to Arkansas....now LSU, I have no idea, except for a/THE curse....

Southern Ms. would give up a Golden Eagle Nut to be considered our rival.

Take me....take me...take me.

God forbid, it's on the way.

Jacksonville State would meet the intrastate criteria too. They play pretty tough when the come to Mississippi too.

I think the buzzards are obviously a much better football program right now. They win way more games, would be a much better looking win, and may actually put up a decent fight. We just don't play them enough. Maybe they should kick OM out of the SEC and take Fedora's boys. Couldn't be any worse and he's 100 times the coach Nutt is.

1) Buzzards
2) Bama
3) Memphis (if our rival is gonna suck **** we may a well go to a half decent city to party)

the reason we can't beat Arkansas is because they have been better than us. We showed we are close last year and maybe this puts us over the top but it has nothing to do with playing Bama and Ole Miss. You cat like no other SEC team has to play the daunting schedule we have.

On the years we play at Tulane, can work with the conference and NFL scheduling gods for us to have a Saturday night game and the Saints to have a Sunday night game on the same weekend. That way we can have a three day weekend in New Orleans.

A&M is the obvious choice for our new rival. Yea, I got the whole history with Arkansas thing but they already got LSU. Both schools are AG schools, both were disowned by their natural rival, both wear same colors, and the annual winnergets Jackie Sherrill to do color commentary for the next football season (since we all know Wyatt is struggling). Next year will be the perfect time to leave Ole Miss in the rearview mirror. I think MSU should start a campaign about there is only one maroon team in the SEC and start to grow the rivalry now. Ole Miss can be the 13th team, odd man out, on a rivalry because I hate to tell em but LSU does not claim them as a rival. *see national championships LSU and Ole Miss

when the Maroon & White cheer would be equally participated by the aTm folks as well as State folks. It would be interesting if that happened. It could truly be a friendly rivalry.

I usually think of a rivalry as being between two schools with a lot of contrast. But I've been wrong before.

Frankly, I have long admired A&M and I think it would be very difficult to re-target my intense rivalry hatreds toward any team in maroon and white. It just does not compute. When they join the SEC they will be a rival but not an archrival. When winning helps State, I'll want them to win. When losing helps State, I'll want them to lose. That's how I feel about most schools in the conference.

Except two.

TSUN is down now but they will, of course, be back eventually - and sooner than any of us would like. They and LSU will continue to be the two teams I most despise. Hate them with a white hot hate. Yes, I know I have friends from both camps. I don't care - I can still like them and hope the bears and the corndogs lose forever in everything they ever do. LSU/TSUN game is the one where the ground can open up for all I care.

GTHOM and LSU.

PS - Edited to add --> NO, I'm not suggesting LSU is a rival. We all know that TSUN is and will remain our real rival. I laugh at deluded TSUN fans who think they are lofty enough to declare themselves above a mere "Moo U" rivalry. It's like watching a cartoon when they do that. Stupid bears.

and seriously meaning it. It's not our fault that you guys have become completely apathetic (considering these past 2 years...it may be) and don't do your best to make this rivalry at least interesting. You've forced our hand on this... as much as we love kicking your asses, we just have to bite the bullet and find someone that will hate us as much as we hate them. It's not us... it's you.

I think that's why the rivalry with them would be more fun. We'd have a friendly rival, and then that arsehole rival from the north.
