I've been a long time reader but not much of a poster. However, a good friend of mine is in dire need right now and I'm asking the board to lift up prayers for her as she battles this illness.

She caught a parasite on her honeymoon recently and has been diagnosed with HUS. She is taking plasma transplants every day for the next 2 weeks. This site should help explain a little more. http://blogs.clarionledger.com/thec...lum-diagnosed-with-life-threatening-disorder/

If you have the chance please donate blood for her.

Katherine's in-laws are huge Bulldogs. Her father in law is Dr. Tommy Byrd of Florence, some on the board may know Tommy. Katherine also works at my wife's company in Jackson. Update as of a little while ago, Mississippi Blood Services is jam packed with people trying to help which is really good. My wife talked to someone a few minutes ago and they said that she is beginning to feel better over the last couple of hours. Hopefully it will all work out for her. I've met her a couple if times and she seems like a really cool young lady.

If anyone played high school baseball in Mississippi from the late 70s to the early 90s (as I did), you probably know this young lady's father, Mike Barkett, who was the head baseball coach at St. Andrews. Prayers sent.

For those that are interested and so inclined, Mississippi Blood Services opens tomorrow at 7:30.

I've been getting the updates from her Husband's facebook posts. She's been out of ICU since the weekend and apparently feeling a bit better. Seems like the plasma transfers have been helping more than anything. Still in need of more blood and plasma.

Here's a public facebook page with more updates (I don't think you have to have an account to view): https://www.facebook.com/bloodforkatherine
