I'm trying to make an attampt to go to a place I've never been every year. This year, a copule of friends and I will be going to the SC @ UGA game. I'm trying to find out places to stay, best way to get tickets, and any other information that would be useful for a person that has never been there before.

As a note, I will not be able to stay at a shithold, I will have my wife along with me but I would still like to be around younger people and a nightlife that I will not have to drive to preferably.

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks folks

No one rag me about the edit, it wasnt to knock mine to the top but to subscribe to the topic

I've been in grad school at UGA for the past year, and everything you hear about this place is true. It's far and away the best college town and atmosphere that I've ever seen. Best talent, prettiest campus, phenominal game-day, un-rivaled dowtown area adjacent to campus, etc.

I would recommend staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. It's downtown, which means it's in the middle of the nightlife. It's also next to North Campus, which is where the bulk of the tailgating is, and you can walk to Sanford easily. If you can't get a room there, try the Holiday Inn or the Holiday Inn Express. Both are convenient and walkable. Disclaimer - all three might be loud outside. Also, you should try booking ASAP.

There seemed to be tickets floating around at every game last fall, even for Bama (which felt like a national championship). You just have to be willing to pay.

our daughter was at uga from 1999-2003...we had a good time at uga games...BUT you'll have to stay at least one hour away...commerce, ga (north on I-85...conyers, ga (south on I-20) or west on 316 where it meets I-85...
uga tailgating is wherever they park...true tailgating...just walk around an ask about tickets...liquor is ok on campus if you're over 21...so being discreet isn't very necessary...
lots of restaurants on broad st, across from their 'arch' logo gate (north campus)...very hilly, so wear comfortable shoes...
they eat parched peanuts so much, that by the 4th quarter, the whole stadium will have a brown haze over it...
be prepared...there's a 'waffle house' on every 4th block in that area of ga...
get a map on athens before you get there...driving there makes starkvegas look easy, and traffic is TERRIBLE on game day...go into and out of town on the loop...
good luck

all that shows available right now are Microtel Athens and comfert inn jefferson. What do you know about these two or do you have any other suggestions? I know that whenever we go visit OM we end up renting a house or condo. Do you know of this happening much or a way to find out about this?

We may have a person we can stay with but we may not. They are looking for a job right now so there's no certainty as to whether or not he'll still be in Athens

There's nothing wrong with commerce until you end up having everything in the town close due to Winter Weather Conditions. At least everything but Starbucks of course

Vacation Rentals By Owners.....sometimes you can find good deals on these places. People will just rent out their second homes. College towns usually have a lot of these.

I use this for condos on the coast every year and have never thought about it for this.

Thanks

Just hope no unruly kids from Mississippi State cook a turd in their microwave. Cause it will stink that whole f'n place up.

On a side note if they have any rooms in which the A/C is broken, you can get it for half price.
