we just landed the #1 juco DE in the nation, the #1juco Center in the nation, and a top 10 rated juco OT for next season. That is huge for us<div>
</div><div>247 has this class at #21 currently- and is most assuredly going to move up- depending on who jumps on board here at the end...</div><div>
</div><div>time to focus on getting Ward- that would make this DL class incredible</div>

These players are big-time regardless, but even better when you consider the positions of need.

The loss of Leon Mackey, J. McKenzie, Pernell McPhee, and Nick Bell last year, then Ferguson and Stigers this year made DE a huge hole with immediate help needed. Enter the #1 DE in the country.

The loss of Lawrence and Carmon make immediate help needed at tackle. Enter a JUCO OL with nice size and a nice offer list.

Depth needed on the interior OL. Enter a JUCO who can play guard or center who will get opportunities to start.

These 3 signings are huge!

A 6'4'' 300lb 17 year old who will enroll in January is also huge. You just can't have enough guys with his size. Will pay major dividends in the future after Balis and Hevesy get a hold of him. He can learn and grow for 3 semesters before we really need him and he'll still have 4 more years of eligibility after that!

actually a good bit if not more to Wilson. That guy is a damn CLOSER! Mind you he didn't have alot of ties to CJ to close that one. But he is straight up selling starkville, MSU & doing his job pretty damn well! I know some will STILL doubt, question saying "man I miss Manny SO much!"

my question is what can we do for the offense next year (other than improving the OL ) or do you think we need any extra tools there ?

According to that USA Today link that was posted earlier, Wilson made $300k in 2011. Tyrone Nix made $500k, <span style="font-weight: bold;">2/3 more</span> than Wilson. That's damn criminal. Get that man a raise.

I'm sure he is becoming an attraction for D players but don't most of the coaches recruit geographically and not by position?

I am curious to know what everybody thinks it's going to take to be successful on offense next year. Or do we not have the tools needed yet? I am glad to see the JUCO O-line guys, but will they be ready enough to start in the SEC year 1 and make enough difference against the big boys? Our Defense should keep us in games, but I am worried that we will be looking at a repeat of the offensive performance we saw this year.

I wish we could call everybody on our schedule Ole Miss, because the game plan seems to broaden and we play like world beaters in that game every year. Plus, all of the teams would probably suck.

it took Mullen longer than he thought it would to sign the type of QB he needed for his offense. Once we finally get that "dual-threat" on the field ready to play- then our offense will improve tremendously. Prescott will be brought along slowly- getting about 1/3 of the snaps next year is my guess right now- hopefully he will be able to do even more. <div>
</div><div>I cant wait for Spring Practice to start- thats for sure</div>

call me whatever the 17 you want; but I think three of our best skill position players on the roster right nowredshirted, Morrow, Robinson and Prescott. Sure Prescott's learning curve will be steep once he starts playing some, but Robinson and Morrow should make a pretty significant impact next year. We have not had someone with Morrow's size and skill at WR in a LONG time.

Why is that whenever Justin Senior is mentioned, people point out that he is 17 years old as if that's unusual? Outside of kids that have failed a grade at some point, wouldn't most senior's be 17 years old during the fall semester? Unless your birthday is between September-November, football players are 17 during their senior year. I know I didn't turn 18 until the spring semester of my senior year.

Some students go to Hargrave their Senior year, some go after their Senior year. So there's a reason to distinguish.

(1) Will we replace Ballard (depends on Nick Griffin?)
(2) Will we have a deep threat receiver (depends on Joe Morrow I think)
(3) Will the JUCO OT and Clausell be adequate tackles?
(4) Will we avoid injurires at the OT position (I think we'll be able to withstand one injury on the interior, but not on the exterior).

To me, (3) is the most important one, then (4). I'm fairly confident we'll replace Ballard and to the extent we still lack a deep threat, we can still be ok on offense without one.

Also, if UT rotates on our schedule, that's one more should win from the east. Trading USCe for A&M is probably close to a wash, maybe a little bit of a better deal for state. Getting Auburn at home should make that game winnable. Depending on how the questions above are answered, MSU could have seven games on the schedule where it is favored, with two toss-ups. If Cox and Banks were to stay, it could really be a special year.

Its not uncommon for a kids parents, guardian, handler orde factofamily to hold a kid back a year in junior or high school so that they can be more physically mature than some of the other competition.

would have scared the **** out of me. He really did seem to improve a little bit towards the end of the year though. Not sure if it was the competition we were playing or if he was really improving.

Here's another question for you guys.... If Cox and Banks stay, does Wilson become more aggressive on defense with the addition of Autry? Or will his bend but don't break mentality hold true? It was pretty effective for us this year so I'm not saying either will benefit us more, but I'm curious to know if that changes his mindset. I get tired of seeing the big cushions we give receivers, but at the same time I would MUCH rather see that then getting beat deep for long TD passes.

Most kids need to put on weight when they get here. And it's not just being a fat body, he's tall and from you tube clips he looks pretty athletic.

I believe Wilson will be a lot more aggressive. You simply cannot play bump and run single coverage without a pass rush. We should have one next year.

I remember looking at our signing class one year and noticed quite a few of the players would be 19 years old before the fall semester of college started. These guys are held back at some point for one reason or another.

For example - you would assume most of the 2009 class wasborn late 90 or early 91.

Bumphis: October 89
Banks: October 89
Josh Boyd: August 89
Chris Smith: Jan 90

These guys would have allbeen 19years old when they graduated high school. Compare them to a guy like Gabe Jackson - he had a late birthday (July 91) so barely was 18 when he started college. It may not sound like much of a difference, but at that age 1 or 2years can make a big difference in strength.

Look at how our offensive production declined ths year. ALL of the skill players were the same. The O-line is where games are won or lost.

are better that any OL we currently have. They are huge upgrades.<div>Having M. Johnson playing the "H back" (TE/WR hybrid) a lot more will be a welcomed addition as well. </div><div>And of course Morrow will help.</div><div>

It would seem that way but I view it a bit differently in that a lot of those guys aren't from MS originally so they don't have any ties here other than their 2 years in JUCO.

I don't know that we have the "lock down" cover corners that would allow us to get to crazy. Also, having a better D line usually means you don't have to be as aggressive. If they can't get through the front four and you have some decent pass rush from the line then you can put more guys back in coverage. It will be interested to see what we do if everything pans out.

Is he a "lock down" corner, I dont know; but he is super fast and has great instincts. He was really starting to play well the second half of the season.

Whatever, sheep! Homer!

Nah, just kidding I agree 100%. I'm really hoping Morrow is a playmaker next year. As far as I'm concerned, our WRs were horrid last year, and until we have some threats in the passing game, we'll continue to have a mediocre offense even if our OL is solid.

He is fast becoming a major candidate to be "my boy" next year. Throw in Perkins, Robinson and Milton, and you really shouldnt include point (1) as a question mark. <div>
</div><div>The rest are legitimate questions. I like our chances with Siddoway and Clausell, but an injury would again be devastating, particularly with Muniz already injured. I think getting Morrow, and Johnson & Johnson on the field more next year is going to add a more physical element to our receiving game which is needed. </div><div>
</div><div>The bigger questions for me will be whether we can see some improvement from our coaches in playcalling, personnel decisions and special teams. We had major gaffes in all 3 areas this year. </div>

Not sure how many tackles saulsberry and clausell made for the other team this season. I counted 3 alone in the UAB game.

I'm really happy that we signed these guys too. At worst, they'll hopefully be serviceable players who provide quality depth and play alot of snaps. But the last two JUCO OL we signed were Freeman and Trapp, who, eh, weren't exactly instant impact, to keep it nice.

Trapp and Freeman both came in with very little strength. They weren't physically ready for SEC football. That shouldn't be a problem with Siddoway and Holley.
