We **** the bed defensively in the 2nd half of the LSU game. In the 1st half, those guys made some amazing catches. 2nd half we went soft and they completed 15 yard curl after 15 yard curl.
I just hope we quit giving up the TDs right before the half. Talk about a waste. Seems like we've done that consistently under Mullen, though.
^^^^This pisses me off more than anything...well, maybe less than the ****** kickers. Last season they even put up stats about how many games we had given up a score in the final minute of the first half. Conversely, when MSU gets the ball at the end of the half, Mullen tends to just run out the clock. I know we don't really have an offense designed for quick scores, but that's also on Mullen. Come up with a way to at least try.
This is DM's biggest flaw as a coach to me (and I'm not a Mullen hater). Game/time management. Clock management is not good, use of timeouts is average, when to challenge is not great (see Houston 2009) but is getting better (see TSUN 2013). Even when we have the lead late and are trying to milk the clock (see @ Florida 2010), we consistently snap the ball with 5-6 seconds left on play clock when game clock is running.
As an aside, Sean Payton is the best in the game at this to me.
Again, I disagree. We had 2 drives start inside our 40 yard line in the second half and neither resulted in points. One was a missed FG, the other was killed by penalties. We had every chance to put the game out of reach before the last 2 minutes and failed.
I just get pissed at the little things that set up things like what happened at auburn last year.. Like LSU 2009. We gave up a punt return for a touchdown due to lazy coverage and threw a pick 6 early on. Just one of those things doesn't happen, we win. Same with Auburn 2011. A pick 6 to start the game and god-awful field position the entire first half... We lose again in heartbreaking fashion. To win the margins, you have to do those little things right early on to set yourself up for success.
ETA: I kinda missed your point... Which is still valid. I just get more pissed at the little things we fail to do early on to set up the heartbreaking moments, and not so much the moments themselves.

Agree 100% with this post. Even the part where you said the highest paid coach in NFL history is good at his job.
Does anybody know why we didn't challenge a couple of plays in the egg bowl last year? I know there were at least two fumbles and I think even an Int that seemed pretty obvious that would have gone our way, and we did nothing about it. The commentators were even amazed we didn't challenge those calls. I think it gets overlooked because we won the game, but it could have really come back to bite us. Hope that doesn't happen again.
You are right that there were things along the way that lead up to the heartbreaking moment at the end. That moment in time where we finally blow it is what burns like the fires of a thousand suns for me and reminds me that my wool doesn't need to be so damn thick.
I also want to point out that mistakes are going to be made. Otherwise we would blow out each opponent we are supposed to be better than. What is infuriating is being 2 minutes away from a win and watching it all unravel. We manned up in the OM game to win it before over time and miss a field goal. We then, quite frankly, were really lucky that Wallace got forehead grease on his hands before that last play. Our D broke down big time and a great play was fortunately made to keep him from scoring. I think a lot of people have overlooked how much damn running room he had on that play.
I expect us to be real close at the end of a few games this year. I just hope we are able to pull them off more consistently and that we do it without needing a fumble 10 yards down field and one step from the end zone.
I can see that argument for sure. Playing to not make a mistake is a huge problem at times.
