No. Yes.Do you go? Have you ever been?
About the same here. Grew up in Neshoba. Missed my first fair in 2005, caught one in 2008 and 2011 and haven't been back. They are moving it to June starting next year so it will only be hot vs gates of hell hot.I went every year from the mid-70’s thru the mid-90’s. Did not go for 28 years and went back in 2023. It was good to catch up with old friends. Still the same 2 forecasts. It is either hot and dusty or hot and muddy.
The NCF is a one of a kind institution and MS should be proud to have it.
If you have a cabin or camper or know people with them it isn't too bad since you can sit and relax for a while. As far as going and walking around just to see horse races and the nightly bands. 17 it. In my younger days it was all about drinking and chasing tail for a week.Last time I went was close to 50 years ago. Not opposed to going I just usually don't think about it. Other than the cabins, horse races and political speeches, how is it different from the state fair? Better food?

Grew up in Neshoba County and have been there often. We didn't have a cabin so were really weren't "fair people". My high school band played for Reagan in 1980 and he walked by about 20 feet from me, which was pretty cool.

Best summary so farIt's a little like LFL for me. If you know somebody, it's great. If you don't, it ain't.
Nope. I’m on record on this here message board calling it The Most Overrated event in Mississippi.Do you go? Have you ever been?

I had to look this up....Grew up in Neshoba County and have been there often. We didn't have a cabin so were really weren't "fair people". My high school band played for Reagan in 1980 and he walked by about 20 feet from me, which was pretty cool.
This was my experience. Was great in college. Wouldn't be against doing it now if I had space in a cabin (not sure I'd be up for sleeping 14 to a room like we did in college) as we still would have a good number of friends to go visit plus there would be some nostalgia factor to it. But not at the top of my list of ways to spend my week or weekend.I went once during college with some Philly friends. My experience was that we got wasted the night we got there, woke up around 11:30, stayed in the cabin til about 3:00, then went out, ate and got drunk again til about 2:30 a.m. Rinse, repeat for 3 days.
It was enjoyable, but the heat was insane. I remember thinking I could get drunk and strike out at Flo & Eddie's and sleep in my own bed with AC.
Still something I'm glad I did once. Unique.
I have no desire to attend this event. It's great for MS, just not for me. Attended one Choctaw Indian Fair years ago. Mainly went because Gary Allen performed. It was 100° at sunset. Cured me from watching outdoors concerts during summertime.Nope. I’m on record on this here message board calling it The Most Overrated event in Mississippi.
Yes…
There’s a poster on this board with a good story of Eli getting the fire slapped out of him at a card game there years ago.I’m here now just shot dice with Eli Manning.
Overthrew the table three times
It wasn’t at the Fair but it was in Philly and the guy that slapped him is the one of the nicest guys on the planet. Probably never been in another altercation ever. There’s a poster on this board with a good story of Eli getting the fire slapped out of him at a card game there years ago.
Appreciate that but we will probably just stick around Del Boca Vista.Jack you and Mrs Klompus should come to the cabin and hang with us.
Yea if you don't have a cabin to go to and a bunch of people to hang out with it's truly an awful experience. Hot as hell and miserable. If you know people and have somewhere to stay and hang out it's fine. I understand why locals/people with cabins go. I will never understand grown ups going that don't have people they know or a place to stay unless it's just their first time and want to say they experienced it or are wanting to see a concert at night.Best summary so far
Not the slap story, but Eli stepped up to the dart toss at the midway and put a hundred dollar bill on red. The guy tossing the dart looked at him, said “17 you”, and threw the dart into the ground.someone tell the Eli slap story.
