According to the Netflix Documentary High Score, SEGA hired a college student on nearly every college campus in the 1990s to be the "SEGA Guy". He got a free game console, free games, and was paid to go to dorms and frat houses and play SEGA games to get people interested in Madden football, Sonic, etc. so my question is...

Which one of you sixpackers was the Mississippi State "SEGA guy?"

It wasn’t me, but we wore out some Madden and Bill Walsh in Sessums in 94-95.

Video games:

Sometime in the late 80s, two of us were just sitting around watching our other two housemates play against each other in a baseball video game.

The other guy looked at me and said: "The only thing that is a bigger waste of time than playing a video game . . . is watching other people play a video game."

We laughed and I agreed with him.

That has stuck with me for 30+ years.

Was it Baseball Stars? That game was far ahead of its time..

and now people watching people play video games is a billion dollar industry...who’d a thunk it.

I had a blast watching that show, and I think it’s hard for people today to understand just how big the Nintendo craze was in the 80s. PC gaming wasn’t quite there yet, and Atari had started to fizzle, so you had a 4-5 year window where it was pretty much the only game in town. On top of that, the internet was still ten years away, so you only knew about the latest games by watching Saturday morning shows, subscribing to Nintendo Power, or begging your mom to take you to the mall or Target. Man, fond memories...

I was never big on the fighting games, but we played the hell out of some RBI baseball, baseball stars, and Super Tecmo Bowl. Later on, it was Madden, Bill Walsh, NBA Jam, and NBA Live

If you ever want to watch some old video games and get a good laugh go watch the Angry Video Game Nerd on YouTube. I think he has about 200 episodes.

Anytime he plays a game made by LJN he loses it because they were so ******.

I wasn't really old enough to play video games until the late 90's so I missed out on a lot of the SEGA and NES craze, and even the SNES to some degree. I was more of an N64 kid. But I absolutely miss that era of gaming where it's just you and several buddies playing together on one console and TV. Online gaming doesn't allow you to capture the pure rage on your friend's face after you hit them with a blue shell on the third lap of a Mario Kart race. Or when you sneak up on them and kill them with a karate chop in Goldeneye 007.

Oh man, N64 basically started party gaming because I believe it was the first console that allowed 4 controllers on the same system. NFL Blitz, Mario kart, smash bros, golden eye, WCW vs NWO.... those were the days, and you’re absolutely right. Many friendships ended(at least for a night) while playing those

I really wish Nintendo would go ahead and release a retro N64 console

Edited to add: how could I have forgotten Duke Nukem too

That was my favorite console ever. I own a Switch now and I'm hoping Nintendo adds a library of N64 games for it like they have with NES and SNES games.

Me and my two young sons have started playing Mario Kart Tour on the iPad these past few weeks. It's been a lot of fun teaching them how to sabotage the other racers.

The Atari 2600 had four controllers and four player games.

Now get off my lawn!

When I was in college 2004-2008 we of course had xbox and playstation, but me and my roommates played the hell out of Mario Kart 64. It was some of the best times gaming.

N64 was about the time I stopped playing so the show was a real nostalgic time for me as it documented the rise of the arcade and the NES which is pretty much my wheel house. We have a PlayStation at our home and we use it as a BluRay player.

When my kids are a little older, I really want to set them up with a N64 w/ golden eye and mario cart. I can't stand them playing a video game by themselves, but if they have a few friends over and are playing golden eye, that won't bother me at all. We'd have 10 or 12 people hanging out taking turns. Some people would play basketball while waiting their turn, sometimes pool depending on which house we were at, but mostly just sat around hanging out.

Mario Kart is mass chaos because you can be really good at it and still finish last because of a bunch of random crap hitting you right before you cross the finish line. Cannot tell you how many arguments I had with my brothers that all started because somebody did some BS to win on Mario Kart.

Also, screw you Rainbow Road.

In the house PGA/Tiger Woods Golf Got people upset, NCAA and Madden got people mad. If a second place racer got lightning on the end of a third lap, controllers got broken and friendships were paused.

Sounds like we need an unofficially official SPS MarioKart64 tournament...

Racing was boring - battle is where friendships were destroyed.
