Never thought I'd see this so quickly.

Thank you Dan Mullen and offensive staff.

It's like we have done a complete 180 on both offense and defense this season. I love seeing the offense but we gotta improve defensively and quickly.

Overall though Mullen is doing exactly what we wanted him to do year 1 and thats bring some excitement back into the program and on the offensive side. He is showing that he has potential to be a dangerous coach in the future. He is so limited right now with a lot of our players on offense but yet he is using our strengths to all of their ability and setting up opportunity for our weaker areas.

Three of the five games our defense has looked good and the other two were against offenses that are good and has made other defenses look bad.

And we've got to do a better job of putting it in the end zone. As you can see we're still way down the TD list (especially per game TD's). Our turnovers contribute heavilty to that. I imagine we're near the bottom of turnover ratio

and the reason we aren't 4-1 instead of 2-3. Yes, the defense has played poorly against some of the better offenses we've played so far but I think, at least most everyone on this board, expected our defense to struggle this year, especially against the pass. We all knew that we had probably the least talented secondary in the SEC and on top of that we are breaking in new defensive linemen. So in the words of Dennis Green about our defense I will just say "We are who we thought we were".

The killer though has been that against LSU we allowed 14 of their 30 points without the defense even getting on the field (pick 6 and punt return) while again last week we allowed Tech to run a fumble back for a TD. Those 2 games have seen a total of 9 turnovers from us and even the ones that haven't directly resulted in opponent's points have often killed promising scoring drives from our offense. In those same 2 games we have forced only 1 turnover and only scored one non-offensive TD on Berry's kickoff return (though granted LSU's botched punt set us up for another short TD). So even with our somewhat porous defense, which we all expected, we STILL SHOULD have won at least 3 and maybe 4 of our first 5 games if it weren't for being careless with the football. Even with all of the offensive improvement, its still extremely frustrating for us to be so sloppy protecting the football while not being able to force hardly any turnovers from the opposition.

On another note, I'm also tired of seeing us constantly getting pushed around from teams out of other power conferences. Especially on our home field. We are certainly doing the SEC no favors. Just in the last 6 tries we've had Ga. Tech 0-2, West Virginia 0-2, Oregon 0-2. Heck, I guess you might have to go back to Ok. State in the 90s (who we split with) to find a team from another power conference that we actually beat during the regular season.

This season could really be big for us. There are a lot of Mississippi High Schools running a similar offense. Coming to play ball at Mississippi State won't just be for runningbacks any more.

Mullen and staff have accomplished this with Tyson Lee. That speaks volumes about where this staff can take this team down the road.

and say that the only times our defense has looked decent this year has been when we played Jackson St, Vandy, and LSU who happens to have the worst offense in the league to date. All three are pretty poor

I'm at the point where I dread seeing our defense on the field. A lot of it is our offense's fault the past 2 games because of the turnovers. But when you see Georgia Tech throwing at will on us it's pretty unbearable. On top of that when LSU is completing passes it wouldnt be that bad but when I am watching the replay on the Mootube and I can't spot a Maroon & White jersey I cringe. That's my biggest complaint is our defense is getting shredded apart. Theres got to be a way for us to stop the big play.
